Pie Bird Vents

Well, I did go back and get the blue and white pie bird this weekend. I am just so much in love with it.

While I was there, I went ahead and picked up a red one as well.

Pie vents have been used to let steam escape from pies since the Victorian era. But the bird figurines weren't popular until the 1940's and were believed to be created from the nursery rhyme, Sing a song of sixpence. I have only seen them in solid colors before, but my research shows me there are a lot more than just solid colors that were made. I love the black and white polka dotted one.

But oh look at this one! The weird thing is, I don't eat pie so I don't bake it. But if I could find one of these, I would bake an apple pie for 4th of July and take it to work.

I really like this one and may try to find it as well. It looks like the blue birds that I see around my house.

I do want to find the yellow/orange one to sit with my Town and Country Pyrex pattern.

I also want to look for a black one just because. No other reason than just because.

These two are on E-bay for $15 for the set plus shipping. It says they are vintage, but I just don't want to pay that much for them.

I will have to keep checking my local stores to see what other styles I can find.

Feel good Sunday

Life is what you make it. Take it by the hand and enjoy every moment. Sometimes there are little blessings that can just make you happy. Today my joy is coming from the fact that I get a Sunday off. That means I don't have to hurry out of church the minute it is over. That means I can enjoy the bright sunshine and get outside awhile. That means I can fix me a good southern Sunday supper (don't know what yet, but it will be good). That means I can relax and enjoy the day. So, I am definitely feeling some good music to go with my good mood today.

The past two days..

We have been doing photo settings for the last two days for our new church directory. It's been a tiring, busy two days. But I did get to hold some of the little ones as they came in for their appointments.

I did manage to run out yesterday morning and relax in a couple of antique stores. I love spending time just browsing the aisles. I started out in my favorite one, Tudor House, in Sevierville, TN where I found an adorable little plate in yellow that was depression glass. It is hard to get pictures of the yellow color, but maybe you can see it good enough.

In my favorite booth there, I found a Pyrex bowl in the pattern I have been looking for. Now to find others in that pattern to add to my collection.

I left there and went to Heartland Antiques to see if they have any Pyrex coffee cups, not Corelle or Corningware, but the ones that actually say Pryex on the bottom. I have a mug tree I want nothing but Pyrex cups on. Lo and behold they had one. And it is the Ribbon Bouquet pattern that is a soft gray flower. I have seen this online but never in person so I was very happy to get it.

The last thing I found before I had to head back to the church for day two was my very first pie bird. I have been wanting to collect these for a long time but never have gotten one. This made my day. I was so happy. I was torn between the yellow or one that was white and blue. I settled on the yellow, but may go back this morning for the other one. Isn't he just the cutest thing?

Hope you are having a great weekend.

Friday Foto Friends

I love the beach. It draws me back year after year. The sheer vastness and beauty of the ocean relaxes me like nothing else can. I love this quote from Jacques Cousteau.

In September 2013, Allen and I were at the beach during the Harvest Moon. It was spectacular watching it. It appeared as if it was rising right out of the depth of the ocean. We sat on the balcony for a long time watching it.

The next morning, I woke up in time to watch the sun rising to greet the day.

If asked what my favorite thing about the beach is, I would have to answer watching the sun rise.

There is just something magical about watching it as it awakens for the day.

I felt like we were really blessed to watch the Harvest moon at night and wake up to a beautiful sunrise in the morning. I just love the beach.

Just some stuff...

Saw this neat idea on another blog. Poke holes in a milk jug and easily water your flower pots without flooding them.

I am doing this. Place some of the little square wax cubes that go in the Scentsy burners into salt shakers. Place in you car. The candles will get hot and melt in the salt shaker and start to emit a wonderful odor for your car.

My laundry area is so haphazard like this before photo. I think a trip to Dollar Tree for storage containers is in my future.

I have seen this hack before for painting. But seriously, this could come with complications. I am not the kind of person that could twist and turn a paint can to get a rubberband around it with out spilling all the paint. And if you suggest I put the rubberband on first before I take the lid off, that is just a whole other disaster waiting to happen when I am trying to get the lid off without spilling paint everywhere.

You know, I have never thought about it. But the smaller paper plates would be perfect to product my nesting Pyrex bowls.

And of course, I am not going to be on Pinterest and not look at beach stuff. What an adorable checker set.

This little shelf might be easy to make.

Don't have a beach to look out at your window? Create one.

And last, you know I love to decorate for the holidays. This would be cute to use in my beach room this fall.

That's all for today. Have a great Wednesday.

Weekend wrap up

I started off my days off by having breakfast for supper when I got home Thursday night. I love biscuits and gravy. Only I just like the gravy when it is made from bacon grease, not sausage.

Friday morning I went to McKay's and took back a few books. I didn't have very many and didn't expect to get more than enough to get 2 or 3 new books hopefully.

But I ended up with enough to get 8 new books. I love series books so these are all a start of a series by each author.

Then I made a stop at Dollar Tree and found some cute summer flip flops and a matching bag.

I picked up a new glass, a drinking bottle (how cute is that?) and some candles.

For my beach room, I found this sign. They are starting to carry a lot of these wooden signs and I love them.

Since I don't want too much blue in my beach room, I thought this one could go in there on another wall.

I have some craft projects I want to do that involve paint. I finally found the sea glass paint that I have been looking for. Can't wait to try it out. I love theses little bottles of craft paint at Walmart. They have an amazing selection and they are just .50 cents each.

While I was in Lowe's getting the sea glass paint, I picked up a few paint charts for a little project I am going to be doing in children's church.

When I sat down to read that afternoon, I realized I needed a new bookmark for my books.

So I grabbed my crochet thread and cut a big length off.

Braided it with a tassel on the end.

Then I punched a hole and trimmed down a paint chip and wah-lah and instant book mark.

I picked up Shelby and she was my date Friday night to a local school production of Grease. I supplied a bench from my front porch for one of the scenes and I was given two tickets as a thank you.

We really enjoyed it. I couldn't believe the talent. I was totally blown away.

Saturday I went with my daughter and Shelby into town, but didn't really do any great shopping to show you....unless you get thrilled when somebody buys trash bags and Ziploc bags.  Saturday night I just spent most of my time on the couch watching TV and enjoy some peace and quiet after an extremely busy hectic work week. I actually fell asleep on the couch until 1:00 in the morning. Then Sunday was church and back to work. So that was my weekend. I hope you had a great one as well.

Sunday's Song

I absolutely love this new group Home Free.

May you have a glorious day today. Be sure and worship at the church of your choice.

Hmmmm?

Went to AC Moore the other day. Found a few patriotic place mats for $1.00 each and some little glass trays for .25 each

Stay tuned......

Some mason jar ideas....

I just love the navy and white theme of these jars.

This one is so cute and simple. I saw it on sale online for $29.00 and I thought "What???" So I am going to get the flowers, paint and anchor and I guarantee you I won't have $29 in it.

A cute idea for Mother's day.

I think I might do this herb garden for my kitchen.

Now this is precious. A soup can covered with photos. This would be good for me to do and send to Mom.

I am getting some really good ideas from Pinterest this week.
