Throw back Thursday....

Do you remember playing jacks when you were little? I loved that game so much. I have even purchased some in my adult years to play when the kids and grandkids have been little. I bet my first set must have looked like this because we bought stuff like that at McCroy's Five & Dime.

Jacks is one game I perfected and was really, really good at. I remember when they started making them in silver and gold.

They even made them in color for awhile.

I remember using a bouncy ball one time to play them because it would go higher. My and my sister were at our girlfriends house and we were playing jacks in their kitchen on a cold day. Her mom said to be careful and not break anything. Don't worry, we didn't break anything. Our ball just went so high that it bounced into Helen's pot of soup she had simmering on the stove. She was not very happy with us. Such wonderful memories. My granddaughter Shelby bought some a couple of year back and brought them over for us to play. And I am proud to say that I can still go all the way through my tensies without missing a turn. Now I want to go get some jacks.

Chip and dip Pyrex

Yesterday, I mentioned a chip and dip set I used to have. Last night I went online out of curiosity and looked up Pyrex chip and dip sets. Turns out they do have chip and dip sets in Pyrex, but basically, it is two of the same pattern in the Cinderella bowl set with a bracket to convert it to chip and dip. Since Cinderella bowls are in abundance, it would be easy to do this. So all I have to do is find a bracket and I'm good to go. Check out some of the bowls they have paired as chip and dip.

I think I would love to find these bowls with the bracket. They would go with any holiday decor.

Yard sales are dangerous....

I have a love hate relationship with yard sales.

I love GOING to them because I find amazing items at great prices. It's a great way to feed my vintage obsession by getting some antique items at a steal.

I hate GOING to them because I end up over a period of time having way too much awesome things that I really didn't need to get.

I love HAVING them because it is a great way to get rid of clutter that you didn't really need in the first place and you can usually make your money + more back when you sell your stuff you got a yard sales and ended up not using or needing any more.

I hate HAVING them because I usually get so excited about how much I have to sell that I grab things that I think I don't want or need any more only to regret selling it years later.

I was remind of this the other day when I saw a picture of mine of an Indiana glass chip and dip bowl in the basket weave pattern. Several years ago, I bought this at a yard sale for just $2.00 for the set, including the bracket. That is unheard of! I had it for a long time and ended up never, ever using it so I sold it for like $10 for the set. Fast forward to Facebook reminding me about when I bought it and me getting depressed because I didn't use it and sold it. But now, I put out chips and salsa for the kids to munch on during the holidays and no longer have this amazing bowl that I could have used for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Kicking myself right now. Call me crazy.

Thank you Facebook memories

Then I’ll see the face of my savior dear
Beckoned close by His sweet command
All my burdens gone, I will rest at last
On the banks of the promised land

Hallelujah, what a morning
When I reach for that nail-scarred hand
And I’m led from grace to glory
On the banks of the promised land

In 2013 on this day, my granddaughter, Alexis, was baptized in the river. A few years earlier, my grandson, Garret, and my son and daughter-in-law were baptized in the same river. You don't see many churches baptize in the river nowadays and to see my own family do that when that was how I was baptized, really touched my heart. Somewhere there is a pic of my grandson, son and daughter-in-law at their baptism. But Facebook popped up my picture of Alexis in my today memories.

Some cute ideas

I saw this on Pinterest last night and thought it would be something awesome to make from one of my beach pictures for my beach room.

I kept scrolling and saw this one as well. Love the glass block even better.

But then I saw this. Oh yes, I am making this. I am absolutely in love with it.

On a side note, I saw this and thought what a great way to use up old yarn, but not sure if I even like it but then in another way I love it. I may experiment with a small one in yarn colors of the beach and see how it turns out. I think the downside is I have watched Descendants 2 lately and this reminds me of Uma's hair. LOL

I also saw this last night. It is actually a rug. How unique.

Well, it is pouring the rain again in our little corner of the world. I woke up with a lower back ache. I know it is because of all the hours I worked last week and all the things I've done around the house this week. But knowing why doesn't make it hurt less. But having to work + backache + rain makes me want to go back to bed. But I'm guessing I have to adult today so I better get to it.

A fabulous idea...

My niece posted this in my Thirty-One group. Isn't this a great idea?

Sunday Songs

A few years back, we had the Wilmington Celebration Choir visit our church. What a spirit moved in us that day. This first video of them is actually filmed at my church. The others are at different churches. But I am sure you will agree they are awesome. They are coming back for our 10:30 a.m. service this morning and I am super excited.

Weird...

I woke up this morning to the sound of pouring rain. I didn't want to get up, but I had to. So I took a look at the weather map to see what to expect today.

It's not going to be a dry day, that's for sure. Then I decided to check Facebook. I always look at my memories to see what life was like on this day in past years. Well, last year was a horrible storm day in this area. I drove to work at 10:00 in the morning heading right into it. These cloud pictures tell the story of how the storm progressed the closer I got to work.

They were huge and rolling in so fast that it was scary.

At times, it looked like the clouds were coming out of the top of the mountains.

the more I drove the darker they got. Keep in mind this was 10:00 in the morning.

I remember it stormed and rained all day. That night coming home, it was even scarier because it was raining so hard I could barely see and lightning struck three different transformers on the roads as I was driving home. I know they were hit because the sparks flew and traffic lights went out as I passed by the flying sparks. Scariest driving day of my life. So I wasn't happy one year later to wake up to a weather report that calls for thunderstorms starting around 11:00 this morning and going until 3:00 in the a.m. tomorrow. It says part of the time they will be isolated and part of the time they will be scattered. Can part of the time they just not be here at all? My office at work is one of those rooms where you can hear storms and rain really, really good. Problem is I've had a long week and I'm exhausted so I will just want to go to sleep if the storms come. Hope you have a great day.

Just a few things...

I have a friend who is about to be a first time grandmother. She saw a cute idea on Pinterest for some party favors for the shower. She bought the stuff in the colors she wanted and asked me to make them since she says she is not crafty at all. So I did them yesterday and they were so stinkin' cute. Save a t-shirt clip art to Word doc, added a text box and printed them out on the paper she provided. Cut them out, hole punched and tied a ribbon. Twenty-one bottle in a little over an hour. Not bad timing and it was fun to do.

Then I wake up to this Christmas card idea on Pinterest. I am going to stop at Lowe's and get some paint samples to do this. I use paint samples for a lot of stuff. I ask the clerk if I can get a variety for a craft project so I don't feel guilty when I get a bunch. They never mind. Not in love with some of the colors they chose below, but I do love the idea.

Fabric lined Mason jars? How do people think up so cute ideas and how did I ever get ideas before Pinterest?

Those had fabric on inside; these have it on outside.

Oh my dear. I need these for Christmas!

Hope you have a happy Thursday!

A Busy Day

School starts back today in our county. So I had my three youngest Grands yesterday for our last day of summer adventure. We decided to go miniature golfing at Ripley's Old McDonald Farm. We had three choices of courses so they elected to do the Cow Course. Our original plan was to do the Pig & Chicken as well, but after one game they decided they had enough of the heat for the day. But it was a great time.

Lots and lots of laughter, a couple of lost balls, and some serious study of each hole we got to.

We sure felt like we were on a farm since we had cows grazing.....

And old man fishing with his dog.....

And even a couple of pigs enjoying the sunshine (Although, I will admit I have seen pigs on farms laying in the sun before, but NEVER by a stream in their bathing suits.)

After the golf adventure and some arcade time, we went to Walmart to get a toy. As we were looking in the aisles, Shelby saw this and it was a little scary. It's one of the new Fashionista Barbie's. I said "Hey Colby check this out." He took one look and said "What is it? Like from the 80's or something?" Good question Colby. Not sure in what world this Barbie is a fashionista.

It wasn't long after that the kids all had to go home. So I went and picked up my friend Sherrie and we made a trip to McKay's to exchange some books. We went to a different Walmart than the one I went to earlier in the day. I saw this shirt that was like one I had in the 1970's. Is Walmart bringing back the past or what? Not absolutely loving all the "older" looks.

Then when we got home, I had a surprise package from one of my nieces, Lori Beth. I was definitely surprise. I couldn't way to see what was inside.

It was a Vera Bradley daily planner and two bags of my favorite chips, Snyder BBQ. They are hard to find down here so it was awesome to get some in a care package from back home in WV.

She knows me well. I love my planner. I am going to use this one for my work planner so I can keep track of the things I need to accomplish each day, my schedule and my to do list.

It was a really good day, but I am going to miss having three of my grands two days a week. With school starting and Colby still in baseball and starting into football, it is going to be hard scheduling time to get them for the day and overnight. I told Colby how much I was going to miss them and his response was "I'll see you at Christmas." He's a hoot. I did let him know I wasn't waiting till Christmas to see them. :)

Happy mail....

What do you do when you have happy mail from your UPS guy only to be at work and know you have 7 more hours to go before you can actually GET your happy mail? Well, you have your daughter go to your house, open your happy mail, and send you pictures!

Which is exactly what I did. She took an accomplice with her who was more than happy to model my new stuff for me. Oh and check out Shelby in her new glasses with my new work bag.

Here's my new double zip cross body purse.

I am so happy with the way the monogram turned out.

It has lots of room in both zipper parts.

My first thought was stuff would fall out easy on this side. Until I got home and realized how deep it is.

I couldn't be happier with the barn icon. I have never lived on a farm. And I have never had a barn, but I love old red barns and I love windmills. When I wanted this new plaid bag for my "work" bag, I couldn't decide what to put on it. Working at the Stampede I wanted a horse related icon or saying. We have a horseshoe but I just didn't like that. Then they came out with the barn and I fell in love with it. Our barn where we get the horses at work is not red, but that doesn't matter. I now have a "Barn Bag" for my work bag and I am super happy.
