Monday Meanderings

I have to post this today because I have a friend who doesn't like to read my blog on the weekend when I talk about getting organized. She says it makes her want to work around the house on her day off. So I waited until today.

I am going to do some shopping around my house this week. Which means I'll be rearranging and reorganizing some of my areas. One thing I want to work on is the top of the kitchen cabinets.Right now it contains items I stuck up there just because I couldn't find any place for them. I thought about putting my Pyrex there, but I am starting to use it so while it would look good up there, it wouldn't be practical. Maybe I could put pieces I bought that I don't really use. I will have to think this through some more.

I hate this counter. We always have snack bowls on the counter and my recipe book basket, but it is getting too cluttered. I don't ever use that little coffee pot, The red canister is one I just picked up at a yard sale and put it there until I can decide what to do with it. But something is going to have to change on that counter. I despise how crowded it is.

Right now, some of my Pyrex that I am starting to use is on the bottom rack of the wine rack which is at the backside of the table so you can't really see it. I need to find a new place for it.

I do love this shelf, except for the flowers in the McCoy pitcher. I am over the spring flowers so those will have to go. I may move the pitcher somewhere else. I'll have to wait and look at it without the flowers before I decide.

My granddaughter Shelby had her birthday party Saturday. We had a great time and I got to spend the evening with my grandchildren. I didn't get to get many pictures because it was too hectic with a game room by the party room. Plus the lighting in the party room was horrible. But I did snag a picture of the cake.

And a picture of the birthday girl fake yawning while we were singing to her.

And my two beautiful granddaughters, Alexis and Shelby.

Hubby and I had a wonderful trip to Gatlinburg Friday. I love stopping at The Village. There are so many quaint shops in there.

And no trip to Gatlinburg is complete without a visit to the Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen. Of course I had to buy some milk chocolate orange creams.

Did I tell you our little city is getting a Pizza Hut Express right beside the Food City grocery store. This is a good thing and a bad thing. The good thing is we don't have but two pizza places in Kodak and one I don't like and the other is inconvenient to get to but their delivery time is about 90 minutes. The bad thing is the new Pizza Hut is exactly 3 minutes from my house and Pizza Hut is my favorite Pizza. I think when I order something I may need to walk and get it so I can waylay some of the calories.

I want to leave you with a little humor this morning. This really made me chuckle.

Jesus Loves Me

Today starts our Sunday School Classes study of Jesus loves me. It is so precious to watch the Pre-K as they learn their lesson. We are going to learn how Jesus takes care of the flowers and how he feeds the birds and even with all that, He still has time for me, as the song says, "When I speak His name."

I can't believe it.

Confetti and Streamers Vue
Wow! Unbelievable!

Today is my 1,000th post on my blog. One thousand days in the life of Mamaw's Place. One thousand days of getting to say what is on my mind. One thousand days of mindless chatter. One thousand days of sharing my life.

When I thought about starting a blog, I wondered what in the world would I ever find to talk about. I didn't know if I would be able to do it. I wasn't sure I would remember to post everyday. I wasn't sure if I even wanted to post everyday.

Now here we are 1,000 posts later and I can't imagine life without my blog. Every time I have those moments of self-doubt, something happens or somebody leaves a comment and I realize all over again why I love to blog.

Thank you to my sweet readers and followers who continue to come back every day.

Finally Friday

Finally Friday. I'm free again.
Got my motor running for a wild weekend - George Jones

Well, maybe not a wild weekend, but certainly a busy weekend. I have been up since a little before 5:00 this morning. I couldn't sleep because of the excitement. Hubby has been working mostly nights for the past three weeks and on his days off I've had appointments scheduled with clients and couldn't take off. But not today. We are both taking the day off today and having a mini "day"cation. We are heading into Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains to play tourist. We don't have a clue where we are going or what we will do, but as long as we get out and go, I'll be happy.

Then this evening hubby is going to help me do some things on my list to get ready for tomorrow.

Tomorrow promises to be a hectic day. I am having an open house for my Thirty-One business. It is a last minute thing so I may not have much of a crowd, but we'll have some good food anyway. I have about four or five so far that might try to stop by. If you are in the area and want to stop by, leave me a comment with your email or send me an email to mamawsplace@gmail.com and I'll give you the directions. The open house is from 11 am - 1 pm in Kodak, TN. The summer retirement list is out and it is six pages long. So if there is something you have been putting off buying, you might want to stop by or drop me an email to see the retirement list for a "last chance" to complete a set. I have to figure out how to display everything for tomorrow. I use most of my bags so having an open house means I have to find a place to put "my stuff" so people can check out all the nice bags Thirty-One has.

After the open house, my daughter has to run a few errands and she wants me to ride with her. Then after that we have to be at a local pizza place for Shelby's 4th birthday party. I'm not sure what theme she went with. Shelby has been tossing back and forth between wanting a La La Loopsy party or a fashion show. Not sure if Shelby thinks she is 4 or 14. Of course, maybe she should just cover all the bases and have a La La Loopsy Fashion Show.

Can't wait for the party. That means I get to be with all five of my grandchildren. It's always fun to spend time with them in the game room after the pizza party. I hope to get some good pictures tomorrow night of each of them so I can do an update grouping. This one is about 8 months old and they are all growing up too fast.

Then on Sunday, we are starting our new bible study of Jesus Loves Me with the Pre-K in our class. Ms. Stephanie will be bringing some of her delicious cupcakes for class. I'll try to remember to get picks. She is so talented. She needs to open a bakery. Here are some she made for her Thirty-One party.

I have to run to Walmart to pick up a few things on Sunday afternoon and then back to church that night.

In light of all I have planned for the weekend, you would think I would have slept in this morning while I could. But once I get energized, I can go, go, go. Of course, Sunday night will find me crashed out on the couch well before bed time.

Part of a memory

I remember the year the twins started kindergarten. It was the first year that we cooked Thanksgiving dinner at our new home. We always went to hubby's parents for Thanksgiving and my parents for a Christmas eve party. But this particular year, we had bought a 14 room, civil war era home and wanted to host the family Thanksgiving dinner that year. Hubby baked the turkey and made most of the meal. His mom came up and helped with some of the final work. I had worked really hard on cleaning the house from top to bottom and had created a beautiful tablescape. I was so proud that year.

But one thing I remember with great fondness is that we started a tradition that year that lasted for years and years. We used a set of Pyrex Cinderella bowls as the serving bowls. From then on, every family gathering, the Pyrex bowls would come out and we would set them on the table. But as years went on, for some reason we got rid of them. Now that I am a big Pyrex collector, I wish I had hung onto them.

Now that I collect Pyrex, I love all the various and varied patterns that are out there. I would love to have a set of Cinderella bowls again. But I just couldn't decide what pattern to look for. Because I have such fond memories connected with the set I had, I think I will start collecting pieces in that set. It is called Colonial Mist. Here are some items that I have seen online that I would like to find.

No Time for Tweeting

I was watching The Big Bang Theory on On Demand yesterday and one conversation just cracked me up.

Sheldon: Sorry. I'm a little distracted. I can't seem to get in touch with Amy. I tried e-mail, video chat, tweeting her, posting on her Facebook wall, texting her, nothing.

Leonard: Did you try calling her on the telephone?

Sheldon: The telephone. You know, Leonard, in your own simple way, you may be the wisest of us all.

There are tons and tons of ways to communicate. I use them all except for Twitter. I do not tweet. I have never been able to understand the concept. I don't want to understand the concept. I have set up an account at two different times and never could grasp how it works. I just didn't "get into it."

Last week, Thirty-One held a Twitter party. They were giving away some products during the party. I decided to create a Twitter just for my Thirty One use. I set up my account just for that purpose. I followed Thirty-One and signed on at the appropriate party time.

I was not impressed with Twitter. The real time transfer of info was not really fast so I found myself sitting there thinking of all the things I could be doing while I waited for the next tweet to come in. I guess I just don't get it and never will.

So I will continue to text, Facebook and pick up the phone. Tweeting is just not going to be my thing.

My recent finds

I went to some yard sales this past weekend. There were a ton of them around the area. It was not a good day for Pyrex finds or vintage kitchen items. But I did find this vintage canister for .25 cents. Thought it would be good for a cookie jar.

I have been trying to decide about curtains for the grandchildren's room. I had some light green sheers hanging on the window but I was getting tired of them. I wanted something with lace since the rest of the house has lace. I found this pair for .50 cents Saturday.

I found three Harlequin romances that look pretty interesting. I have been reading romance novels lately that are so long it takes forever to get a book finished. So I thought some light, shorter books may be good for a break.

I found this padded carrier at one sale and thought it would be good when I transport my tablet. But it ended up too big. It will work until I find something else.

My daughter is doing some rearranging at her house and had a quilt rack that she just wasn't going to have room for any more. She asked me if I wanted it. She wanted me to have it if I could use it because my Daddy had made it. Daddy loved to work up in his shop building things. I wasn't about to turn down the quilt rack. I put it in the grandchildren's room. My plan is to find 5 cute fleece throws so they will each have their own when they come visit.

A couple of friends at church surprised me yesterday by giving me these vases they found. I love them...(the friends and the vases).

One of my friends is doing a display with some items in her kitchen with grapes. I had just decided the other day to get rid of a pitcher I have and she said she would take it. So I'll have to get it to her next week.
