Things that made me go WOW

I have a love/hate relationship with Craig's List. I love it because you can find some super cool bargains. I hate it because the closest city on my Craig's List is Knoxville area and that is a huge area. Everything I seem to find on yard sales with good "stuff" is too far away to go to. But it is fun to window shop. Here are some things that caught my eye today.

Some crocks.

This set of Home Interior pictures. I always wanted a set of these for my twins room when they were little, but never found them.

What an awesome find. The entire set of the wheat dishes. Perfect for a fall table.

And a matching wheat crock and wheat glasses. I finally found me one of the wheat glasses that I wanted so bad. Drank my Pepsi from it every day for about a month or two then cracked it in the dishwasher. I was so upset. So I'm looking for another one.

I don't have a clue what this is and it is in rough shape, but wow would it be something fun to fix up and restore and to find something unique to use it for.

An estate sale in a town too far for me to drive to, but look at the potential for good finds. I would grab up that little chair with the brocade fabric back and the little side table with the white knobs.

This was advertised along with a note that said she had 'a storage building full of antique and vintage items.' I need to check this out. I see a lot of stoneware, milk glass and what looks like white mixing bowls.

Bet there are some awesome recipes in here.

I blogged about the gray Grecian leaf pattern of Pyrex restaurant dishes a few weeks ago. I had never seen them before and now everywhere I look, they have them in a multitude of colors. These turquoise ones are pretty.

I had never heard of the orange butterprint pattern until recently. They say it is rare. I see the blue a lot, but not the orange. A full set...of a rare pattern...I bet it is expensive.

This one just makes me sick. It is over 2 hours away and is an estate yard sale today. This was just one of the many tables they posted pictures of. They had tables of milk glass, depression glass, vintage Christmas and this table. If you look half way back, you will see Pyrex fridgies....tons and tons of Pyrex fridgies. I would go nuts to get to be there today.

The Baker's Dozen that got away

Sometimes I like to go to E-bay, type in Vintage and click on time ending soonest to see what is out there that catches my fancy. I usually don't bid on the last minute bids unless it is something I have been watching and trying to get. Last night there were 13 items I saw that I either wish I had time to bid on them or wished the bidding wasn't so high or simply just liked them. Here is what I saw that caught my eye.

This Gingerbread Cookie jar. Would love to have this for Christmas time.

I remember these old cake decorating kits. I would think they would be easier to clean than the current plastic ones.

Do you remember these? I always wanted one and never did get it. Just one of those things you never get around to doing. I had the adult products and thought my daughter would like the child size set. Wish now I would have bought her one way back when.

Remember Holly Hobbie? I loved all the stuff that had her on it.

This is pretty neat. It is a vintage roasting fork. If I had this, I carry it to cookouts for my marshmallows.

I don't smoke and would never use this, but my Daddy smoked Camel with no filters until he was in his 60's and had his heart attack. He quit that day cold turkey and never went back. By then the damage was done and his heart paid the price. I am glad I never picked up the habit.

Isn't this a precious vintage brooch (or broach, depending on your part of the world).

Of course, no trip to E-bay is complete without some Pyrex shopping. This would be great for meatloaf.

I like this fall pattern.

I have got to find me some fridgies. That is one type of Pyrex I have never come across in my thrift stores or yard sales.

Isn't this a lovely piece. I am not sure what you call the Pyrex bowls shaped like this, but I love them. Does anybody know there official name?

A couple of my dream bowls. I am going antique shopping this month and hope to find one of these.

And last but not least, this piece is so lovely. I will have to look up that pattern.

Well, there you have it. The ones I let get away.

It's starting to feel like Halloween

October. The launch of Halloween month. Time to decorate.

I was inspired by a wand sign in Gatlinburg and a Pinwheel on a blog. Saturday I went around the task of collecting some items to do a Halloween display.

First thing I went looking for was a chalkboard. I found this one at Walmart for .97 cents. Purple is one of the new Halloween colors so I bought it. This would save me from having to paint or trim a wooden one.

So I glued some orange buttons on it that I had at home and wrote on the chalk board.

I made a little star wand from some items I already had around the house.

And here was the finished product.

While I was out Saturday, I stopped by the 50% off Scrapbook Store in Governor's Crossing and picked up some scrapbook paper and some embellishments. This was my first pinwheel so it isn't perfect, but at least I know I can do them and I learned a few things along the way by trial and error. This was made from one sheet of paper that cost .25 cents and one embellishment that cost me .20 cents. I glued it on a dowel rod I already had at home.

The bottom two pinwheels are simply 2 embellishments glued on top of each other and a button added to it. I had the buttons and dowels so it was just 4 embellishments at .20 cents each.

I had some raffia and ribbon and this cute little jar at home so I decided it would make a cute vase for fall. I stuck the pinwheels in it.

Here was the finished product.

I picked up this whimsical witch at The Dollar Tree for, of course, just a $1.00.

I had a little wooden Jack-o-lantern that I wanted to put in the display. Here is my finished Halloween display. Total cost was $3.53 and that included the tax. Not bad.

Then I remembered I had bought some material to make a no-sew runner for the coffee table. It was simple. My niece Amy gave me the idea. Just cut your runner 2" bigger all the way around that what you want it to be. Fold it under and hem using Heat-n-Bond hem tape. I added a twist. After I was done, I went back and folded the corners under on the two ends so I could have a point on each end. I ironed them in place with the hem tape as well. Stuck my Jack-o-Lantern we've had forever in the center and surrounded it with my two new Pyrex candy bowls and wah-lah! I'm loving it.

This got me in the mood to put out the rest of my Halloween decor.

I had to bring out my favorite ghost cookie jar. One of my clients back in 2003 sent me a cookie jar for every occasion. This was the one she sent me for Halloween.

Here is my little $1.00 scarecrow I've had for years and my little wicker pumpkin I bought at a yard sale this summer.

I had so much fun decorating. I really enjoyed making the runner. I'm going to make a few more for Thanksgiving and Christmas for some various tables. I may have to work on those one evening this week.

A most precious baby boy

I can't believe two years have come and gone. My youngest grandson, Colby James, is 2 years old today.

Such a beautiful baby. He had a head full of dark hair. Such a beautiful baby boy.

I can't believe how little he was. They grow up so fast. Here he is with his cousin Amy.

Mamaw's little man the first time he went to church with me. What a handsome baby.

This is one of my favorite pictures of him. He looks so deep in thought.

Doing what he does best....playing with his cars.

Me and Colby. He holds such a special place in my heart. Even when he is grown with kids of his own, he will still be Mamaw's baby. I guess that is how it is with the youngest grandchild.

Playing goofy golf. He is all boy. Every time you see him he has a car or some kind of ball in his hand. He is always ready to race or play ball. It is so cute.

Doing the other thing he loves best....eating. After four picky and semi-picky grandchildren, it feels strange having one that eats so well. He loves just about anything you feed him.
