Trying to Decide

Tomorrow is a busy day in Oak Ridge, TN. There are a couple of different estate sales going on. There will be one in Knoxville as well. I'm trying to decide if I want to fill up on gas and head that way. (Provided ice and snow heading our way is gone by then.) It would mean a really early start, but some of these just look like the type of sale a person could get lost in. Here are some of the pictures I saw that caught my eye.

I just fell in love with some of this furniture. Especially the little green desk and chair, though I must say I would paint it a sea blue and put it in the grandkids/beach room. And wouldn't that white dresser be perfect for silverware, table linens and storage in a big farmhouse kitchen.

I love the little blue night stand over by the big blue dresser. A little too much blue with the dresser, but I adore the night stand. 

Check out the vintage picnic baskets. It is rare to find one, much less what appears to be 5 or 6 of them.

I have no idea what you would call this piece of furniture. The top looks like a cedar chest since it opens with hinges on top. Then there is the little drawer and a set of doors. Very interesting. 

You know I would have to check out the tea cups. I see a Royal Dalton Old Country Roses on the front left corner. I have the tea pot and two cups/saucers. I would love to add another teacup/saucer to my set. 

I have had so many punch bowl sets in my lifetime. I buy the cheap ones, then never can find anywhere to store them and they don't get much use so I end up yard selling them. But if I had one like this, I would definitely hang on to it. And check out the little crystal dessert cups on stems to the right of the punch bowl. 

This picture is sorta strange but for some reason, I took a fancy to it. 

I love cuckoo clocks but they drive hubby, well, cuckoo. If I had one, he would never let me wind it! Seriously, I did have a little one he bought me years ago in Helen, GA and over the years it quit working so I got rid of it. It was one of those little colorful Swiss Alps type ones. I wish I had kept it just for the look.

Check out the chenille bedspread. You don't see those much anymore. I always did like them. 

What a neat set of Christmas ware. 

I would lay money that this Sunbeam mixer still works. And check out the little snack plate set with cups to the left of the mixer. 

Speaking of snack plates and cups. I am guessing this family did a LOT of entertaining. 

I love this picture for two reasons....It reminds me of me and my sister and it reminds me of my granddaughters, Alexis and Shelby. Not in looks but in sentiment. Two precious little girls who love each other. 

And my oh my, I do believe I see some fridgies in this picture. It looks like one may even be a butterprint pattern but not sure. 

Somebody really liked the Corelle blue cornflower pattern.

Check out the vintage Tupperware in the orange, yellow and avocado green. 

I fell in love with the cake plate, dessert plates and server all to match. Awesome.

And I see PYREX. I would drive all the way to Oak Ridge if I knew I could get the light green casserole dish with the matching mini one on the front right corner. And that might be another butterprint pattern behind it. And if you look close, on the extreme right is a 3 piece Cinderella set but I can't tell what pattern. My oh my, what goodies.

Now, just to decide if I want to drive that far on the off chance that I might just maybe get lucky and find something worth the trip. If I knew the lovely Pyrex could be mine at a reasonable price, I would head out in a heart beat. I really hate the idea of driving that far by myself but I don't want to not go and then think "I should've, could've, would've." Oh well, guess I will just have to sleep on it. If my sister and my cousins were here, they would go with me I am sure. 

Speaking of...

Why is it when something catches your eye, you start seeing it everywhere. I have been seeing tulips on everything. Check out this pretty tablecloth from Amazon. Only problem is that it isn't available in the size I need. But it sure matches my kitchen/dining room area.



Speaking of tablecloths, I saw one that would be perfect for Erica at Pyrex Thrifter Sisters blog. She collects state glasses and state trays. A state tablecloth would be just the thing for her table.




Speaking of collecting this was just posted on Craig's List on the 20th. An unbelievable price for $10.00. I would snatch it up in a heartbeat if I didn't already have a set and if it wasn't in Seattle area. That's a little too far from Tennessee and I hate to think what the shipping would be.

Speaking of Tennessee, we are under a winter storm watch again this week. Last Friday, we had some snow and they are calling for rain/sleet/snow again this Friday. Hubby and I wanted to do some running so I hope it's not too dreary.

Speaking of hubby, we are hoping the weather doesn't hit because we want to go to Steak and Shake and eat. We haven't been there in a long time. The problem is we are on one side of Knoxville and it is at Turkey Creek on the other side of Knoxville. I am worried about the ice hitting and not being able to get back home. But I really, really want some of their vegetable soup with a big, juicy cheeseburger.



Speaking of soup, I hope the storm passes us by because I am supposed to go to a soup and slippers Pampered Chef party tonight. It's perfect weather for soup and I just love my slippers I got for Christmas and was excited to show them off. Not to mention, I am in need of something new from Pampered Chef. One thing I'm thinking about are the new drink savers for the grandkids.

Dollar Days

I have started dropping my quarters in the change jar to save for yard sale season. I love to go to yard sales, but I'm pretty thrifty with what I will buy. I will pay as much as $3 or $4 if it is something I want really bad and is in good shape. Like the time I got three hats for our Pre-K Sunday School class for a total of $4.00

But I really love it when I find a bargain for $1 or less. I was looking around the house the other day and realized I had gotten some good deals last year. Everything in this picture I got for $1 or less. My favorite was the Hazel Atlas coffee cup for .75 cents. I had two but my sister was down last fall and fell in love with them...and she drinks coffee...and she collects vintage...and she has turquoise in her kitchen...and she's my big sister so needless to say I only have one now. 

I just adored this little candy dish and couldn't pass it us as one of my $1 deals. 

My best finds were these vintage bowls. The best one was the Pyrex Gooseberry. It was only about quarter or .50 cents. I can't remember which. The other two are a FireKing and a Glasbake and they were under $1 as well. 

Hope I have as good of luck this year. 

Tulip Tuesday

Last week, I discovered the tulip pattern on Glasbake kitchen items. I fell in love.

Then I saw this on Craigs List. The whole set of vintage Tulip bowls.  And I realized tulips may be one of my "new things" this year. 

I love this little bowl with the blue tulips. 

And fresh tulips in teacups. 

I absolutely fell in complete love with this little glass candy dish. It is so precious. 

And what about this little bowl. Love the sunflower and tulip together. 

I love vintage linens and this is a popular pattern from the 40's and 50's.

I wouldn't mind having a little locket like this. 

And this single tulip necklace is adorable. 

Since I love birds, these earrings just spoke to me. 

I do not remember Corelle having this pattern, but I found this cereal bowl on E-bay. 

This is a really dainty cute tulip bracelet.

The lady that made these called them fabric tulips. They look more like rose buds to me, but I still like them. 

Another vintage linen that I wouldn't mind finding somewhere. 

But my favorite of all was this table with the tulips in the vintage bottles. I SO want to do this look. My only problem is finding a vintage tablecloth to fit. I need 102" and you just don't see them that big anymore. I'm considering taking the middle leaf out of the table and only put it in when the kids come over. I just need to talk hubby into it because he likes the big long table. I am going to start collecting little vintage clear bottles to put some tulips in so I can get this look. 

I already have a start on the bottles. I bought this one last year at a yard sale and never could really find  a good use for it. I put lotion in it for awhile, but I had a hard time getting it to come out so I just abandoned that idea and held onto the bottle. Now I will be able to use it.

Weekend Wrap Up

You can tell the holidays are finally over and I'm slowing down some because I didn't have one of those hectic crazy weekends. I went shopping a little Saturday but all I bought was some nail polish that I do not like. When it dries it has no gloss look to it. It looks like flat house paint. On the way to take my daughter home from shopping, we stopped at a stop sign and these were across the road.

Only in Sevier County will you see peacocks walking along the road. I went and picked up Garret and Alexis to stay all night with me Saturday. Alexis was chilled after her bath so she had to borrow my robe and wrap up in my favorite blankie till her teeth stopped chattering. I mean literally chattering. We had it about 78 degrees but she still was freezing.

 

Garret decided to get me addicted to Dragon City, a game on Facebook. I must say...it worked. I never knew a Facebook game could be so addictive. Only problem is he went back home and now I've got a couple of things I can't figure out. He's just going to have to come back and give me more training. I am doing pretty good catching on, but there are still some gray areas I don't understand.

We went to church yesterday morning. Last week I sent some soup home from the Thirty-One party with one of my friends for her hubby and son's supper. They returned the empty containers yesterday. In the south, it is customary to never return a dish empty. So when I picked up my containers, one of them had some of my favorite cookies in them. They were delicious. 

 I made some brownies for the kids when they were over Saturday night. When I got back from taking them home, I decided I wanted some icing on them. So I made the icing from the Texas Sheet Cake recipe and put it on the brownies. It was delicious.

We had a gospel group, The Michael Frost Trio at church last night. Shelby wanted to go with me to hear them. I just loved her outfit. Both of my granddaughters are so stylish. 

How cheap am I? Well, this is one of my favorite pairs of my assorted wild reading glasses. You will notice on the lower left hand side of the frame, they have been hot glued back together (I didn't have super glue at the time). Well, the sad part is they were just $1.00 and I glued them (not very good I might add) rather than replace them. But, I do love the frames and they are one of my favorite pairs of my Dollar Tree reading glasses. 

I saw an awesome idea on Pinterest the other day and I'm going to do it for my spring table decor. It involves bottle. As I was going through some things this weekend, I found this little bottle I bought last year. It was just ,25 cents. I didn't have a clue what I would do with it, but I bought it because I loved it and it was cheap. But now I have a use for it. Stay tuned tomorrow to see how I'm going to use it.
