Happy birthday, Sis

Today is my sister's birthday. Words can't convey the love we share and the memories we have made over the years. From being little kids to having our own kids and now being grandmothers. But deep inside we are still those two little girls that drove our Mommy & Daddy crazy with our silliness. We can go months without being together and then when we are, we step right back into the silliness of our childhood. All it takes is one "Remember when...." and boom we break out into hysterical laughter and everybody looks at us like we are crazy. Memories of mud pies and lightning bugs. Badminton and Barbies. Swimming in our underwear in the little plastic pools in the summer. Watching TV in cardboard boxes on Thursday nights after they delivered the groceries. Walking up to Vickie & Teresa's to play for an hour and them coming back home with us for another hour. Singing along to The Supremes. Changing rooms with Mom and Dad so we could have the phone in our room and then changing back because Daddy didn't like us keeping that door shut. Me and my million stuffed animals I had to sleep with every night. Your neatness and my not so neatness when it came to the room we shared. Lady, the dog and the cat having kittens in the dog house. Trips to Gladys and Walter's to lay in the floor and read funny books and eat candy bars. Halloween. Christmas. Easter Sunday and the beautiful dresses Mom made us. The shorty pajama's she made us every summer. And probably one of our fondest, funniest memories.....those stupid green turtle pajamas that I wore and the fact that they were so comfortable I refused to wear panties with them. (I seriously cannot believe I am telling that, but hey, I was a little girl, don't judge me.) But above all the memories, all the stories, all the things that go with being sisters, is the love. 100% undying love that will never dim, never change and never leave.

Wine glass snow globes...

I have planned on sharing this craft idea, but couldn't find where I ever did. So excuse me if these are duplicates. A friend of mine is making these for gifts and I just thought they were too adorable not to share what she has done so far. I have got to try this.

Catching up...

 Let's try this again. I am off work today so I am going to do the things that I wanted to do on my day off Sunday. I was teasing them yesterday and told them I wasn't answering the phone if they called me today. So far I have cleaned the house, done a load of laundry (washed, dryed, folded and put away). I have cleaned out all my dresser drawers (8 drawers) and gathered up stuff from my closet to donate to the local KARM store. I have organized my craft projects and set them aside to finish up this afternoon. I made tuna salad and am getting ready to have it for lunch. After lunch, before I start crafting, I am going to put on a pot of soup to simmer for my supper tonight. Here's a picture of the last batch I made. It was so good. 

I am going to bake myself a white cake with homemade chocolate icing and make a pan of Reese's peanut butter fudge for work tomorrow. You can't say I don't know how to pack a lot into one day.

The best laid plans....

You know how it goes. You have your day planned. You are looking forward to it with excitement. And bam! Nothing works out like you planned. Came home from church and ate a bite of lunch. The cake didn't happen because I forget I was out of oil and didn't feel like running back out. While I was finishing lunch, I got a call from work. They were desperately needing someone to greet the guests last night. One girl called in sick and the other greeters couldn't come in. Having greeted groups and doing the doors many times, I know how exhausting it can be for two people much less one having to do it alone. So I agreed to come in to help. Worked from 4:00 - 9:30 so I didn't accomplish anything. But at least I get to enjoy a lot of the show while I'm a greeter.

1. Did you know your spouse? No, we didn't meet until 6 years after high school.

2. Did you car pool to school? No, driving to school wasn't as popular back when I was in school. I wrote a bus every day.

3. What kind of car did you drive? Once I got my license, I drove the family car when I did go anywhere. It was a red Chevy Nova.

4. What kind of car do you have now? Ford Explorer

5. It's Friday night... where are you? Spending the night at my best friends house or out on a date (once I turned 17)

6. What kind of job did you have in high school? I didn't work through high school. But as soon as I graduated I got a job as administrative assistant at a mattress factory.

7. What kind of job do you have now? I work in Guest Services at Dixie Stampede.

8. Were you a party animal? This answer is funny since I was totally shy in high school and not sociable except with my small group of friends. 

9. Were you a cheerleader? No. I could do everything but splits and back then splits were really popular in cheer routines. So I never did try out despite the fact I did perfect cartwheels, round offs and hand stands. 

10. Were you considered a jock? No, definitely not. I loved to play badminton if that counts as a sport.

11. Were you in band, orchestra, or choir? No, I was in Future Business Leaders of
America.

12. Were you a nerd? No, I was just plain old me. 

14. Can you sing the fight song? Yes, every word. I can also still do the majorette routine to it. I wasn't a majorette, but I went to every home game so after awhile you just learn it.

15. Who was/were your favorite high school teacher(s)? Mrs. Spencer who I had for two years of Business English, Office Machines and Office Assistant. And Miss Goodman who I had for my senior year of Business English. They taught me so much about the business world.

16. Where did you sit for lunch? Whereever we decided to go for lunch, mostly at a booth in Pirates Corner across from the high school.

18. What was your school mascot? Pirate

19. If you could go back and do it again, would you? No, because I think I had a great time throughout high school and took the entire three year business course and what I learned has done me well through the years. Plus I like the outgoing me I am now and wouldn't want to go back to that quite, shy girl I was back then. 

20. Did you have fun at prom? I never went to my prom and didn't really have an interest in it. But I did go to the 8th grade dance and had a good time.

21. Do you still talk to the person you went to prom with? Since I didn't go, no. But a friend of mine didn't go either so we went out to a movie and out to eat. She is still a dear friend and we still talk and occasionally see each other. It's hard to get together since we live in different states, but she does call me when she comes here on vacation.

22. Are you planning on going to your next reunion? No. I don't do reunions because it is always about drinking and partying and that's not my style.

23. Are you still in contact with people from school? Some of them, yes. That is one thing I love about Facebook. Got to find a lot of friends that I had lost contact with over the years.

24. What are/were your school's colors? Red & White. Wonder if that is why red is still my favorite color.

Sunday songs....

It's Sunday and I'm excited. I don't work on Sundays but the past three or four weeks we have been shorthanded so I have volunteered to work afternoons. I have been going in as soon as I get out of church and working till late evening. But starting today, I've quit volunteering for it because I miss my Sunday's. Relaxing and just doing things I enjoy around the house....reading, watching a movie, a little baking. Plus we started our Christmas Choir practice and I have missed the first one or two. After I get home from church this morning, I plan on baking me a white cake with chocolate icing to have later this evening with some sliced peaches. Then I'm putting on a pot of homemade veggie soup to simmer so I can that for my supper. It's going to be a wonderful Sunday here in the South.

Some things I am loving right now....

This popped up on my Facebook memories. I made these a few years ago, but gave them as gifts. I want to decorate a little tree for my home office/craft room. So I am going to try to make most of the ornaments. Heading to AC Moore today to look for some burlap and brads for the eyes. Already have some jute.

I want to make some more of these as well. They were so much fun and very simple to make. Used the tops off some of my broken ornaments. Use some yarn I had and some toothpicks with beads glued on the end. 

I have started the little wreaths but need to get ribbon for a bow on them. Crocheted just chain stitches and then wrap them for the wreath.

Can't wait to start on crafts.
