Weekend Update

I finally found my Pyrex Halloween containers at Target. Other bloggers said they found theirs in the Halloween candy aisle. So I looked there and found them. I picked up the pumpkin one and the bat one.

I put my Kraft caramels in the pumpkin one and my Midnight Milky Ways in the bat one. At my Target, the bat one was also available with an orange lid but I wanted the black on black since the other one was orange on orange.

Getting my new Pyrex made me want to use some of my vintage pieces so I decided to use this one to make some little mini brownies.

They turned out really good.

Mom had a set of the primary bowls when we were growing up. She always made cornbread using the little blue bowl so I decided to make Hubby some cornbread muffins since I was in a baking mood.

They looked so cute. This was also the first time I used one of my little butter pat plates.

Friday I stopped at an antique store that has one little booth that is not antiques and has yard sale prices. I bought these two mugs for just .25 cents each. I am accumulating the coffee cups for my Christmas Open House for my Thirty-One business in November.

Our Goodwill store normally has some good prices on coffee cups so I stopped in there to see what they had. I got these three. One was .30 cents and the other two were .50 each. I have a total of 7 Christmas cups now. I want to end up with around 12 -15 for the party.

The Goodwill store had this snowman tin for .75 cents. I snatched it up. I have an idea of what to do with it for Christmas. Watch for it on a future post.

I found these little seasonal angels in Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall for just .50 cents. I am going to have to figure something to make that I can change out the angel each season. Maybe a wreath or something.

But my favorite thrift find of the day was this. You know I love Christmas and if you have read my blog for awhile you know I collect Tea-for-One sets. Imagine my excitement when I found this one in perfect condition for just $5.00. Didn't even stop to think if I wanted it or not. That was a great deal.

Heaven Came Down....

I was heading over to the grocery store around 7:30 Saturday morning and this was my view.

The first song that came into my head was "Heaven Came Down and Glory Filled my Soul".

Fall is in the air

Nothing says fall like fresh produce on the shelf, bushels of apples, and fresh mums. My favorite place to visit, Double R Farms, had all of those when I went there on my weekly trip.

The mums were in various stages of bloom and the colors were fabulous.

I love this little rooster planter.

And when you enter the store, Mr. Scarecrow is there to welcome you.

As summer winds to a close, there are still some melons to be found.

And these were the prettiest peppers I had seen all summer. By the way, did anybody besides me grow up believing these were called Mangoes? It might have been a WV thing, but we all called them mangoes. I didn't know till I married my hubby that they were actually called bell peppers. I am not sure why they were called mangoes because they look nothing like a mango.

The tomatoes and cucumbers are still some of the best around.

His potato and onion section keeps growing. Notice the little bags of fresh garlic?

These are some good looking baking potatoes.

The price on the small potatoes is unbelievable. Just .37 cents per pound. These make great fried potatoes.

I am obsessed with the peanut barrel. I think that just add a country charm to it when you walk up to the counter and see the big tub of peanuts. I need to suggest a big tub of pickles to go beside it.

But the highlight of the day was the apples. Big, crisp, juicy apples. It is very rare around here to find Rome apples (right). I am thrilled to know Double R carries them. We make apple butter every year and I like the flavor and consistency best when we use the Rome apple. I'm going to special order a bushel or two when we get ready to make the apple butter. The ones on the left are Macintosh. If you are southern, you have probably had cooked apples at least once in your life. I have always found that the Macintosh is the absolute best apple for cooked apples.

Double R has announced that they are planning a craft fair for October 13th. They are looking for crafters who have southern, primitive or country crafts they would like to sell. Friday Favorites from Mamaw Bee

In my many meanderings on the internet this week, I got stuck on E-bay and couldn't seem to get away from it. The end results was I clicked a lot of items on my "watch list". When an item is under $10 including shipping, I like to watch it to see where it goes. I saw a few things at .99 cents with no bidders and low shipping and a few things with just one or two bidders with a low bid and low shipping. Thought I might just watch them to see how they go and maybe even venture a bid on one or two. And I'm sure a lot of them will go for way more than I would pay. Here was what I liked....

This Pink Gooseberry Casserole Pyrex. I wish it had a lid. But if the price was right, I would order it and look for a lid later. Ever since I made a blackberry cobbler in my snowflake one, I have been look for more of this size.

As you know, I love nesting dolls. They actually have some good deals on auction right now. This Santa would be great for Christmas because I collect Santa's of all shapes and sizes.

I was in a school performance of The Nutcracker in second grade. I was a sugar plum fairy. So I love anything with nutcrackers.

I love this pattern. They are selling the cups individually. But I just loved the look of an entire box of Pyrex cups....still in the box!

I have yet to find me any fridgies with lids that are in usable shape at a decent price. This one goes with one of the patterns I'm collecting.

I like this pattern. I would love to get some golds, oranges and browns for fall decor. Right now, I mostly have blues and greens and one brown and one pink. Need to keep searching.

Town and Country Pyrex Casserole

I loved this ad from 1954. Especially because it shows the set of bowls in the Primary colors. That set goes in most antiques stores for $60 - $75 or more. In this ad, it looks like it sold for $3.50.

And last, but not least, is this pretty little casserole dish. I have been seeing this pink round casserole a lot on websites lately, but have never seen this exact shape in person in any patterns. I would love to get my hands on one of these.
