Weekend Wrap Up

You can tell the holidays are finally over and I'm slowing down some because I didn't have one of those hectic crazy weekends. I went shopping a little Saturday but all I bought was some nail polish that I do not like. When it dries it has no gloss look to it. It looks like flat house paint. On the way to take my daughter home from shopping, we stopped at a stop sign and these were across the road.

Only in Sevier County will you see peacocks walking along the road. I went and picked up Garret and Alexis to stay all night with me Saturday. Alexis was chilled after her bath so she had to borrow my robe and wrap up in my favorite blankie till her teeth stopped chattering. I mean literally chattering. We had it about 78 degrees but she still was freezing.

 

Garret decided to get me addicted to Dragon City, a game on Facebook. I must say...it worked. I never knew a Facebook game could be so addictive. Only problem is he went back home and now I've got a couple of things I can't figure out. He's just going to have to come back and give me more training. I am doing pretty good catching on, but there are still some gray areas I don't understand.

We went to church yesterday morning. Last week I sent some soup home from the Thirty-One party with one of my friends for her hubby and son's supper. They returned the empty containers yesterday. In the south, it is customary to never return a dish empty. So when I picked up my containers, one of them had some of my favorite cookies in them. They were delicious. 

 I made some brownies for the kids when they were over Saturday night. When I got back from taking them home, I decided I wanted some icing on them. So I made the icing from the Texas Sheet Cake recipe and put it on the brownies. It was delicious.

We had a gospel group, The Michael Frost Trio at church last night. Shelby wanted to go with me to hear them. I just loved her outfit. Both of my granddaughters are so stylish. 

How cheap am I? Well, this is one of my favorite pairs of my assorted wild reading glasses. You will notice on the lower left hand side of the frame, they have been hot glued back together (I didn't have super glue at the time). Well, the sad part is they were just $1.00 and I glued them (not very good I might add) rather than replace them. But, I do love the frames and they are one of my favorite pairs of my Dollar Tree reading glasses. 

I saw an awesome idea on Pinterest the other day and I'm going to do it for my spring table decor. It involves bottle. As I was going through some things this weekend, I found this little bottle I bought last year. It was just ,25 cents. I didn't have a clue what I would do with it, but I bought it because I loved it and it was cheap. But now I have a use for it. Stay tuned tomorrow to see how I'm going to use it.

Walking through the waters of faith...

This past week, we experienced several days of hard rain and there was a lot of flooding in our mountains and the surrounding cities. One day, I made the comment that I don't know how Mrs. Noah stood it for 40 days and 40 nights. 

It got me to thinking. The bible talks a lot about Noah. How he listened to God. He heeded the call. He built the ark and gathered his family and the animals to board the ark. He had very specific instructions. He was given the exact dimensions and told all that would listen about the dire days ahead if they did not board the ark as per God's plan. 

It never mentions Mrs. Noah's thoughts on the matter. Do you think she stood at the window watching the building going on? I can just imagine a modern day Mrs. Noah brewing a pot of tea and setting around the kitchen table with her friends bemoaning the fact that her husband was building an ark. What were her thoughts? Did she think he was crazy? Did she turn to her friends and say "I don't know what I am going to do with that man!" Did she stress about feeding everyone for the duration? Did she worry what the neighbors thought? Was she busy packing her favorite dishes and washing up all the clothing as she got ready for the great flood? Did she stand in the door of her home and take one last long look and then turn with a deep sigh to journey on a to new phase in her life. Or did she simply get on the ark because Noah said it is time to go. 

One thing for sure, no matter what is said or not said about Mrs. Noah, we know she showed great faith in God to handle whatever was coming. In her faith, she knew that her family would be protected or she never would have allowed her sons to go on board. We know she had faith that God would take care of everything or she would have tried to talk her husband out of it.

If she had balked in any way or had caused Noah any grief over going, I am sure the bible would have recorded it and her wariness would have been shown to us as a lesson on how God meant it for good. So by the mere fact that she is not mentioned, we can only assume that she was one of the great Women of Faith who stepped out on that ledge simply because God said to.

Just loafing around....

When I first started collecting vintage Pyrex, I was buying whatever I could find, not giving a thought to how I would use them. Well, I have concluded that I like the Cinderella sets to be used to set out as serving bowls at gatherings. I like the mixing bowls...well, obviously to mix in. So now I have decided to collect some loaf pans since I would use those. Here are a variety of Pyrex, Glasbake and Fireking that caught my eye. Think of all the things I could make....meatloaf, homemade bread, lemon pound cakes, baked beans, banana nut bread, hamburger/potato/cheese casserole, lots and lots of goodies. So today, I'm obsessing about loaf pans and I just can't wait to start picking a few up here and there. Any of these lovelies would be perfect for me. 

  

Me and Mr. UPS

My UPS guy is quickly becoming my hero. Want to know what he brought me yesterday?

That's right. The largest Cinderella bowl for my Colonial Mist set. 

I now have my cherished entire set that I've been longing for. It was the set hubby and I used the entire time our children were growing up. I got rid of it many years ago before it was popular to collect it and when we were downsizing. I have regretted it every since. Now I have the entire set again and I will never part with it this time. 

And it arrived on our first date anniversary so the day was even more special. Plus Hubby cooked us breakfast this morning and made bacon, gravy, biscuits and eggs. The gravy was served in one of the Cinderella bowls. The thing I love most about this set is that it didn't cost me anything. Two were trades from my Facebook group and two were gifts. And I collected the entire set in just six weeks. AWESOME!

I got something else yesterday, but Mr. UPS didn't deliver it. Mother Nature did.

It was raining and then around 2:30 it started changing to snow flakes mixed in. 

Within about an hour we had this. 

It just kept coming down. My poor little tree looks so sad. 

A couple hours later the guy next door brought his little girl out to play. She is about 22 months old and was having a ball (sorry I took it through the window screen. Too cold to go back out.)

It is pretty and I'm so glad I had went to the store the day before so I could stay home all day. 

About 2 hours into the storm we were hearing thunder and power outages had begun. This morning it has stopped snowing and is 29 degrees. It just might be another day of staying in all day. 

Some stuff for Thursday

My hubby is one in a million. I wouldn't trade him for anything. Today is the 32nd anniversary of our first date. We met through a mutual friend who hooked us up for a blind date. She told him about me and me about him and then he called me. We had talked on the phone a few times, but had not met until that first date. It came a bad snow and I was sure he would cancel, but he didn't. We still went out to eat and to see Urban Cowboy with John Travolta. By the time the evening was over, I was in love and knew that love at first sight was possible. I even told my best friend that I wanted to marry him. Everybody laughed at me. Two months and 10 days later we got married. Now, here we sit 32 years have passed...we are still together...we are still in love...and we still think each other is the best thing to ever happen to us. He is an awesome hubby and a very loving father and Papaw. Not to mention that man of mine can really cook and he spoils me rotten. So I think I'll keep him.

Speaking of love, I was surfing through the internet last night and found some other things I'm loving right now. I love this scarf. I found it over at Noble Knits blog. It says it can be made in 30 minutes. I may try one this weekend. I love to knit but it only holds my attention for an hour or so then I put it away for months at a time. So if I had a project I could do in 30 minutes I would be good to go. 

Since it has been too dreary to go window shopping or thrifting this week, I've been doing my "look and see what I like" on line. I found some cute things that caught my eye. I love this little cup. I am going to have to start drinking more hot chocolate so I can have a reason to buy coffee cups. They are one thing I love and yet I hardly ever use them so I don't buy a lot of them. Hubby drinks coffee but he has his one favorite cup so no need to buy any for him. 

As much as I love Pyrex, I will be the first to admit that Fireking, Glasbake, Federal and Anchor Hocking have some nice pieces as well. While I was surfing around looking at things I liked, I failed to notice who made them, but I did love this little casserole dish. I'm almost sure this is the Glasbake Onion pattern, but I could be wrong.

I am pretty sure this was Glasbake. I love how it has the words on the side as a pattern. 

There are some cute colors and designs in this little mug, very retro yet very modern. I don't know why I am always attracted to items with flowers on it. 

This seems to be a very popular Glasbake pattern. I have one bowl in this pattern and it is easy to find at reasonable prices in antique stores so I may get some more of it. 

This is just precious.  

As a bird lover, it would be awesome to find a set of these. 

Not sure if this is Pyrex or something else, but I really loved the pattern. The shape looks like a Pyrex casserole dish so that may be what it is. Anybody know for sure?

I don't know why, but I am loving these brown coffee cups with flowers and gingham. Again with the tulips. Not sure why I am drawn to tulip patterns all of a sudden. 

I would love to find some cute little figurines this year at yard sales. I'm especially partial to lambs right now but don't know why. I just think they are cute.

I would also like to find a couple of vintage swans for my master bath.
