Thank you, Miss Goodman

In honor of National Teacher's Day, I want to give a big thank you to Miss Carolyn Goodman, my 12th grade Business English teacher.

Carolyn R. Goodman
1925-2007

She provided me with a good strong, solid background in letter writing for any occasion. My love of writing started then.

She was strict and she was stern, but she was very fair and would spend hours helping you understand what she expected of you.

She didn't tolerate fools and her class was very organized and she ran a tight ship. You were given a business situation, you discussed in depth how to deal with it, the you had to write a letter addressing the situation. It was an A or it was an F. There was no middle ground. One forgotten comma, one dangling participle and you were sure to earn a big fat F. I am happy to say that she was such an awesome teacher that I made it through with straight A+ on my report cards with Miss Goodman.

She was by far one of the scariest teachers I ever had, but yet one of the best. I have always talked about Miss Goodman and what I learned from her. She's the reason I love the business world and she's the reason I love to write.

Thank you Miss Goodman for your many years of dedicated service to the education system. You are greatly missed by all.

Weekend Wrap Up

It was a rainy dreary weekend so I didn't do a lot. On Saturday, I did hit some yard sales...especially any that were indoors. I was able to find this cute little tea pot for just $1.00.

At another one, I found a stack of little crochet doilies. There were five of them for $2.00 so I just went ahead and got the stack.

I'm not sure where I will put them all but they were too pretty to pass up.

These need some TLC on a few stains but I know they will come clean.

One of my all time favorite pictures has always been this one. So when I found it for just $1.00 I knew it was coming home with me. And yes it was already framed so not a bad deal for a buck.

My daughter gave me this purse over the weekend. I had gotten it for her because I thought it was the shade of blue she was looking for....it wasn't. Which worked out good for me because I love the color. Now to find some flip flops to match.

Sunday morning it was too rainy for our Pre-K class to do "band". So we decided to do it in the classroom. My ears may never be the same again.

Hubby worked last night and it was still cold and rainy so I decided some pizza bread was a good idea for supper. Comfort food.

They are so easy to make. You just use your favorite sub rolls. I use Cobblestone Mill White, pizza sauce, your favorite topping(s) and your favorite cheese. These are so easy. I always make mine sausage because that is my favorite. Hubby likes his with sausage, pepperoni and banana peppers. A friend of mine stopped by to drop something off and I told her what I was making for supper so you stopped at the store and went home and made them with pepperoni. Her family loved them.

However you load them down, they are delicious.

What I did, what I am doing, and what I want to do...

What I did....I rearranged the office/craft room last night. I know you get tired of me doing that but I spend so much of my time in there and still haven't gotten it the way I want it. My biggest problem has always been the desk at the window. The sun hits there from 11:00 on and it gets hot sitting in front of it. So I finally rearranged things and swapped the desk and the craft table. I like having the craft table in front of the window better.

I'm using my spare kitchen chairs in my work area. I moved my little file cabinet to the corner.

I put my desk against the other wall and moved my printer to the printer stand. The desk being moved brought it closer to my dry erase board.

I love the finished product.

What I am doing...I am going to take a drive down Boyd's Creek today because there are a lot of yard sales happening over that way. They have yard sales all the time and there was even an article written about the increase of yard sales in that area. But first, I'm going to the Catlettsburg School Community Yard Sale this morning. They have awesome deals. Last year I was thrilled to find this little cutie for .25 cents. I use it constantly.

When I moved my desk, it also now allows me to see my Thirty-One rewards board. It reminds me why I got into Thirty-One in the first place.

Sometime over the weekend, I need to get ready for a Thirty-One party. I have loved being a Thirty-One consultant but recently I began to wonder if I was going to stick with it because my sales had slowed way down. But then all of  a sudden I got two calls. So I'm doing a party this coming Monday and another one the next Tuesday. Should be an awesome time.

In honor of the new flip flop pattern, Monday night's party will be a summer theme. Everyone who wears flip flops will be registered to win something in the new flip flop pattern. The hostess is stocking it full of summer fun items.

What I want to do....I want to finish some unfinished craft projects. I bought some pretty pink yarn and some pretty blue and now I don't know what to make with them.

I also want to organize my yarn. I have some in this little basket. I have some in a box in my closet. And I have some in three drawer craft box. I definitely need to get it organized.

I also need to finish this little coaster. I started it several weeks ago and made it in one hour. I started the outer edge trim and got a call and haven't been back to finish it yet.

I bought some awesome material to make some no sew scarves for various areas in my kitchen. The material is still in my little project tub.

Maybe now that my craft room is organized (again) I will be able to finish some of these projects.

Oh my lovely, please come home with me

The call came in around 3:00. "Come by the shop, I have something you might like." Off I trotted and there she sat. A little dingy and dull around the edges.

Sporting that favorite word of mine...PYREX!

No chips or cracks anywhere. I knew she had to be mine. I checked the price...$3.00! I snatched her up and brought her home and gave her a good bath.

Now I am the proud owner of my very first in the New Dot collection. Please meet Ms. Orange.

Of course I had to put her in a place of honor.

She is quietly resting on my shelf of favorites.

Now to find her siblings. Some bowls I just buy whatever I find in the pattern. But some become an obsession of "I must find the whole set." The New Dot is one of those whole sets I have wished for. The hunt is on until I can get the whole set.

Can't believe I finally did it....

I finally had my first official lesson in crocheting. I know how to chain stitch, but didn't have a clue how to turn around and go back the other direction. Thanks to Judy, a new friend of mine, I was able to learn how to single crochet, something called double and a half and one more that I can't remember. It might have been a triple stitch if there is such a thing. We weren't making anything, just randomly crocheting stitches. Then we would rip out and start over. After about 20 minutes, I started from scratch and did a little piece and used all the stitches she taught me. This is the result.

It's too loose in places and too tight in places, but I did it all by myself. And do you know what else I learned from the experience? I learned that I am sticking with knitting. It is SO much easier. But at least I know I could learn to do it if I really wanted to, but I don't think it is for me.

As the weekend approaches, I am making plans for yard sale shopping. I was looking on some local sites to see what good items might be showing up at yard sales. Craig's List people will sometimes put pics of their items and you can see an idea of what they have. It's usually small furniture, tables full of glassware, kitchen items, etc. Just some thing to pique your interest. As I was scrolling through them, this caught my eye and I wondered what hubby would thing if I brought this home. :)

Isn't that just the cutest little camper you ever laid eyes on. The same place has this one for sale as well.

I just thought they were adorable. Truth be told, he would probably love it if I bought one of these home. I did see a cute little roll top desk on one of the ads. It looks so precious.

It is at an estate sale that is happening on Saturday. Here are some other items they had listed.

Check out this table. I love tables with fold down sides so you can expand as you need to. I am sure there is a name for this type of table, but I don't know what it is. I just call it tables with flaps.

It is hard to tell what I might find this weekend.

Happy Anniversary

I want to wish my son and my daughter-in-law a happy anniversary today. They are not only husband and wife but best friends.

God has blessed them with three beautiful children and a love that will last throughout eternity.

Happy anniversary, Chris and Jamie. I love you.

Some local Pyrex for sale

I am looking for a Pyrex in the Pink Daisy pattern. This one was listed again on Craig's List. It was on there for almost two months at $25 locally. They listed it again at $20. I wondering if I should call and offer $15. I want it bad enough to pay $15, but not bad enough for $20.

There is a set of three Shenandoah bowls for $25 for the set. That's not a bad price, but it's not a pattern I'm looking for.

I sorta like this Verde pattern, but not sure. It's just $10 so that is not a bad price.

Two Butterprint bowls for $30 total. Not a bad price considering how hard it is to find that patter around here except in antique stores.
