Waiting for the weekend

I don't know why, but October is always such a busy month for me. And it won't be getting any better. I am going with a friend to McKay's bookstore to exchange some more books this weekend. I read so many on my vacation that I need to go stock back up. We can easily spend a couple of hours in there finding what we want.

We will probably go to Waffle House for breakfast. That is are normal routine when we go out for the day. I absolutely love their hash browns.



I also want to go to the huge Joann Fabrics in Knoxville. I am looking for some blue and gold plaid material so my friend can make a dress for my granddaughter Alexis.

Do you ever have a day.....

.....when you forget to blog? I have had one of those days. I was trying to decide what to post today when I got a call this morning. Then hubby had to leave for work. Then I had to leave for work. Then I had to work. I just realized I never wrote a blog post today. 

I am loving the fall weather we are having this week, even if it means I have to put away my flip flops. I did wear them last night to Bible Study though. But since my feet got cold, I guess it's time to break out the warm socks. I love wearing fuzzy, thick socks around the house. 

This does make it seem more like fall. I can't believe Halloween is just around the corner. I may have some fun and dress up like a gypsy.

I guess I'll watch Duck Dynasty at 10:00. I love that show. 

But first, I think I have time for some Luigi's Sherbet. I always try to keep some on hand. It is delicious.

A fall kind of day

Yesterday was finally a day that actually felt like fall. The air was cool and crisp. Last night, I baked a cake for our bible study class tonight. We are having beef stew and cornbread. I decided to make a spice cake with caramel icing. The house smelled so good while it was cooking. 

I can't wait to eat it. It smells so good. 

I guess it is officially fall since I didn't wear flip flops or capris today. I actually on jeans and a pair of loafers. 

Weekend wrap up

It's been a busy weekend here at Mawaw's Place. Saturday I was able to get to see all five of the grandkids at different times throughout the day. Colby had his birthday party on Sunday so I got to be with all the grandkids and that always makes for a good weekend. 

I stopped by Walmart to do some birthday shopping. I did manage to grab myself a cute little pair of Halloween slippers to wear around the house. 

I was able to squeeze in a little antique store shopping at a new antique mall that opened this past Friday. They are still stocking the booths and not everyone has moved in yet, but I did pick up this cute tin for just a couple of dollars. I don't know that it is vintage, but I really loved it. My craft room is in pink, blues and yellows. I'm going to put this on my sewing table and use it to hold threads. 

I also stopped at a house that looked like they were having a pretty good yard sale. There wasn't anything vintage, but I did find another tin for my collection. Anytime anything has Hershey's on it you can pretty well bet I'm going to buy it. And when it is only .50 cents I am definitely going to buy it.

I have been looking for a pedestal mirror for my bathroom counter. When I found this for just a dollar, I knew I had to have it. 

I also went to a local store called Home Accents. It is a combination of booths that is rented and each booth is rented out. You never know what you might find. Their is a Kitchen Outlet Store. I have been looking for a new skillet. They had it for $9.97 on sale for just $5.97. It is Proctor Silex Ceramic Non-Stick. I wanted it for when I want to fix grilled cheese, fried bologna or fried egg. We will see if it is really non-stick. 

Some of the booths in this store carries some antiques. Not everything they have is an antique, but they do have some neat items. I am trying to collect holiday salt and pepper shakers. I already have a set of pilgrim squirrel salt and pepper shakers for Thanksgiving. This weekend I found this Gingerbread man and house for just $2. Aren't they cute?

I also like a variety of little toothpick holders. I have a Santa head. Now I found a snowman head for just .75 cents. 

But the highlight of the antique shopping was the hobnail planter I have been looking everywhere for. I haven't been able to find it. I walked into one booth and there it sat. With a price tag of $10. Whew! I don't even pay that much for my Pyrex bowls. But since I wasn't finding any Pyrex and I really, really want this flower pot, I decided to put it in the buggy and think about it. I really wanted the one that says Fire King on the bottom, but I decided I would just have to settle for this one that was unmarked. 

I had just about decided to get it and almost left, but there were still a few more booths to look at. So I kept going. I walked into another booth and this is what caught my eye. 

Yes, that is just $3.95 for the exact same vase I was thinking about spending $10 for. I turned this one over and lo and behold stamped right on the bottom .... FIREKING! So did I buy the one for $3.95. Oh yeah! And now I am happy, happy, happy.

Trying to blend in

Yesterday was the annual Fall Homecoming at a local art gallery. We decided to go and walk around and check things out. One of the first places we went was to the sheep shearing barn. While we were there, I couldn't resist a picture of the flock as they awaited their turn. 

I noticed the one black sheet amid the other sheep. He had a furtive look to his face, if sheep can have such a look. It appeared to me like he was trying to blend in and yet, hoping no one could see he was different than the others.

If got me to thinking how many times in our lives do we do things to try to blend it. Do we join the wrong groups because we want to be one of the crowd? Do we go with flow and dress in the styles of those around us so we won't get termed "different". Do we try to hide our light under a bushel because we worry about what the world will think if we take a stand? Do we shun God at those times we need Him simply because our co-workers, our friends or sometimes even our family may be uncomfortable with us talking about it. Are we like the llamas I saw who simply stood straight and silent, less the world judge our views or criticize our thoughts. 

Psalms 139:14 says "I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;[a]

Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well." 

We should all be like the peacock. Walking around with our head held high, proud of what the Lord has blessed us with. I'm not talking about outer beauty but the beauty that lies deep within. The uniqueness that is simply your own and that God fashioned after His own image. Many people do not like the word proud because they deem it to be associated with pride and pride is not always a good thing. But I feel that if we are not proud of what God has done in our lives; then how can we show others how blessed it is to be a child of the King. 

This song says it all "I was made in His likeness, created in His image. For I was born to serve the Lord. Now I can't deny Him, I'll always walk beside Him. For I was born to serve the Lord." So rejoice in what God has given you. Praise Him in the good times and the bad. Become the YOU He has blessed you to be. Hold your head high. Don't worry about fitting in with the crowd or worrying about what others think. GOD is the only one who knows our hearts. And we serve a forgiving God. Don't let others judge you and cause you become what they want you to be, not what God wants you to be. 

Fall Styles

This year, I am breaking out of my comfort zone of "mom" jeans. I have a couple of pairs of "normal" jeans but they are getting a little loose around the waist and they were just a tad long so I have to wear them with a slight heel on my shoes. So I am on the lookout for some cute, comfy jeans that will look good with flats or loafers. I found a pair of loafers I love. If this makes me not so stylish, I'm not really bothered by it since I'm 56 years old. I've been scouting around the web for ideas. I found some 505 Levi's that have possibilities. These are cute and the waist line doesn't look too bad.

I also like the 525 Levi's. They look good and comfy especially with flats. 

I saw several other kinds but nothing hit my fancy. Several people have told me that Lee jeans is probably what I'm look for. I saw these on line and they seem to be perfect. My criteria is regular jean look, no faded sections, comfy fit, a normal waist not anything low rise and just a straight leg that would look good with flats. Yes, I think the Lee jean straight leg, relaxed fit will be my jean style of the year. 

Now onto shoes. I love the old fashioned loafer style flats. I don't care if they are in style or not, but they are in the stores so I am going to check out a few different styles. My dream shoe would be a new pair of loafers. I have seen several pairs I like. These are cute and I kind of like the buckle. I've never had any loafers with a buckle.

I also like these. You don't get to be my age without owning a least one pair of penny loafers over your life time. I had some like these when I was a young girl. 

Then I saw these and I really, really fell in love with them. The darker shade on the top versus the rest of the shoe just made me fall in love. But the type of style at the toes just doesn't look that wide and I'm worried they may be too tight through that area. 

But then I saw these. I went crazy over them. These are the shoe. This is what I want. They are Thom Mcan shoes and I'm wondering if Kmart will have them since they carry Thom Mcan. All I know is that this is the shoe style I want this year. 

Of course I will wear a lot of sweaters. I want a variety of colors and styles but I really am drawn to the longer ones with patterns.

I am also going to make a trip to our local Bass Pro Shop. I have a sweater from their and it is one of my favorite articles of fall clothing. I want to go see if they carry any Bob Timberlake Waffle Henleys. I'm in love with this style.

They have them on their website, I just don't know if they have them in our local store. But I love this one. (even though the pictures are a little blurry).

Well, while I am out today I may just have to take the grandkids and go to Bass Pro. Since my oldest grandson loves to hunt and fish, I'm pretty sure I can talk him into it. 

I'm glad it's Friday.

Last night, I went to Ebay...like I do a lot...and I always type in Pyrex bowls and just see what is out there. I never bid on any I'm just curious whats available. As I was scrolling down the list and saw a unique one I had never seen before and the price wasn't bad. I don't even know what I was thinking but I clicked Bid Now and entered a price .50 higher than the type price. Now if you ever use Ebay, you know that if there are 5 people bidding (which there were not counting me) somebody has their highest bid set higher and you almost always get immediately outbid. Well, I entered and it said I was ahead and there were 2 min and 48 seconds left. I had not even noticed that. I watched. I waited. The second ticked by. It got to be down to 1 min 13 and I thought "Seriously, nobody is outbidding me? It's PYREX. This never happens to me." It got down to 10-9- and then next thing I know it is over and I am the proud owner of a piece of Pyrex I never even heard of. Apparently no one knows the real name according to PyrexLove.com. It is just know as Salad Bowl, though some call it Fruit Salad bowl because of the fruit pattern and some call it Fetus bowl because the pears are shaped like little babies. No matter what you call it, it is now mine all mine. 

I posted about it in my Facebook Pyrex Passion group and have had 3 people want to buy it from me. I guess it will just depend when I get it how much I like it. Some say it is rare others say they see it all the time. But I have been shopping antique stores and thrift stores for 2 years now and never, ever seen it or heard about it. We'll see what I do with it when I get it. 

My grandson plays football this year. He is a freshman so he doesn't get to play at the varsity games. But they had a varsity game on TV last night and I watched it. It was really exciting seeing his team playing on TV. It was even more exciting that they won. They have a great team this year. I think they are 6 and 1, but not sure on that number. Anyway his mom took a picture of him on the sidelines so I at least got to see him at the game. Not sure where my cute little grandbaby boy went, but he is turning into a handsome young man. Tomorrow is the Robert Tino Fall Festival. My hubby has to work almost a double because they supply the barbecue sandwiches and drinks for a food booth at the festival. It usually has a big turn out. Not sure if I will fight the crowd for it or not. I went three years ago, but haven't been able to make it back so I don't know about this year.
