Weekend wrap up...

I had a great weekend. It started out by talking to Mom on Friday and finding out she got her gift I made her for Mother's Day. Another successful Pinterest idea. I had my friend at Stevie Marie's put the Mamaw's Tennessee Garden on the material. Then I got the hand prints from each of my 5 grandchildren and put them on the fabric to make Mom a wall hanging with her great-grandchildren from Tennessee. She loved it. 

Then my daughter-in-law gave me my Mother's Day gift from her and my son. You know how I am about flip flops. Love them.

Hubby got me two new shirts which are very comfortable.

And my daughter got me a new shirt to go with my new flip flops.

I went to JC Penny's on Saturday and they had an awesome door buster sale going on. I treated myself to this little ring for just $7.00. I thought it was adorable. 

And at Walmart I finally found some flowers for my milk glass vase. I have pink in my home office so these look great in there. 

And to celebrate my new pink phase, I bought me some pink nail polish. But then I was too tired to do my nails so I haven't used it yet. 

It was an awesome weekend. 

Happy Mother's Day to the world's greatest Mom.

I have one of the best mothers in the world. She has taught us all so much over the years. She is one of the most courageous women I know. Over the years she has beat colon cancer, an aneurysm, and most recently breast cancer. She has done all this with courage and faith. 

She raised four children who love her dearly and have very fond memories of all the things she has done for us over the years. 

She took us to church and raised us to know the Lord. She has always set an example of being a good Christian woman. Even though we went to church every single Sunday growing up, Mom did not get saved until I was 16. But she had set such a good example and lived such a good life that when she got saved, a woman that had known her for years said to me "I was so surprised when your mom got saved. She is such a good woman that I thought she was already a Christian." What a wonderful testimony of her life and the way she was raising us. 

The years have gone by so fast and even though we don't see each other like I would like, Mom has been the cornerstone that keeps us all together. She raised four children who are still close in heart even though we live miles apart. Any time I visit, she tries to get as many of us together as she can. 

This is me and Mom on her 80th birthday. My sister, Rachel, brought her down for a week for us to celebrate her 80th birthday.

It was one of the best weeks. 

Even at 80 she was still going strong. We ate at some of her favorite places down here.

And spent the entire 7 days just hanging out and being girls.

Now she will be 84 in June and she just beat breast cancer. She is still going strong. We are so blessed to have her with us and expect her to be around many more years.

I love you Mommy. I hope you have the best Mother's Day ever.

Best little piggy story I ever heard. Hubby was very excited with his prize.

If it's Thursday, it must be hamburgers.

When I was growing up, Daddy got paid on Thursdays. He would get home from work a little after 3:30 and Mom would go to the grocery store to get her weekly groceries. She would come home with a trunk load of those brown paper bags full of food.

She would get the standards of milk, bread, eggs, etc. And she always got Daddy his giant Hershey bar that he kept hidden and would get it out and share with us kids.

She would also get one carton of Pepsi that had to last for a week. There were originally 6 bottles per carton and I remember how excited we got when you could take the bottles back to the store and get 10¢ each for turning them in.



And we always asked for Saps donuts. She would get ice cream and chocolate syrup and we would have donuts and milk shakes one night for a snack.



And no matter what, every Thursday night when she came home from the store and the groceries were all put up, she would fry up hamburgers in that old cast iron skillet. They were the best hamburgers in the world. I would have mine with cheese, pickle and mustard. And we always ate them with Snyder's of Berlin barbecue potato chips on the side. She still makes the best hamburgers in the world and every once in awhile I remember those Thursday night hamburgers and it makes me crave them so I fry one up in my iron skillet. Oh, sweet memories.

There is nothing like a mother's love...

Top 10 Tuesday

My top 10 things today are pictures that I see on the internet that bring back childhood memories for me.

1. Quilts hanging out on the line. 

2. Home made chocolate cake from scratch with chocolate icing.

3. An old pitcher of ice tea with lemons. 

4. An old outhouse. Growing up in the country in the '50's we saw more of these than we did bathrooms in my young days.

5. Daffoldils were all over the bank on the front hillside.

6. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy with some kind of vegetable.

7. Meatballs in brown gravy with mashed potatoes. This was my favorite meal of all time. 

8. Jump ropes always take me back to my childhood. "Cinderella kissed a feller..." Loved jumping to those old rhymes.

9. Playing jacks. My all time favorite thing to do. I would play them now if I had a patio instead of a deck. Of course, not sure if I could get out of the floor afterwards. 

10. The Cincinnati Reds. Daddy loved them and listened to them on the radio or watched them on TV every time they were on.

Such sweet memories.
