Memorial Day Tribute

It's not a moment in time. It's not a special day. It's not a weekend celebration. 

It's a loving memory of those who have given their lives to protect our freedom. 

The unsung heroes. The Marine, the Soldier, the Sailor who placed his life on the line and with the blink of an eye that life was gone. Given to protect the lives of people he never knew or met. People who would be protected for generations to come. All because he answered the call of duty and made the choice to serve his country. 

To some, it is someone we didn't know and we can go around and just enjoy our weekend with no thought to what this day means. But to some, it was a husband or wife, a mother or father, a son or daughter. The ones who gave their lives for our freedom left behind a family that cared. A family that loved. And a family that still mourns their passing every day. 

Please remember to utter a thank you during your busy weekend to celebrate and praise the very ones who are responsible for your right to enjoy the holiday.

Sunday Morning Songs

Projects in my future...

I was at a friends house yesterday for our annual yard sale. In her beach room, she had this cute frame with real shells inserted into little insets in the frame. My daughter-in-law just gave me some beautiful shells for the beach room I am decorating for the grandchildren. I saw this and thought "I could do that if I could find a frame." 

When I went back out to our yard sale, I discovered this frame that my friend was selling. I snatched it up. I had some craft supplies for sale and had these paint brushes and this blue paint. Guess I will be making a sea shell picture this week. I want to get some scrapbook paper that is either sand or sea background for each square. 

I bought a striped comforter and then found this anchor material. The comforter is for the day bed in the beach room and the anchor material is going to be for some throw pillows. 

While getting ready for our yard sale, I found these kitchen towels and bread cloths that I had bought last year. I want to do some appliques for various holidays on these. 

It's good to get the "I wanna craft" mood back again. Stay tuned for results of my projects in the upcoming weeks.

Anchors Away....

I love anchors. I am working on a pillow project that involves anchors. I decided to go to Pinterest to see what anchor items caught my eye. Here are some of the things I fell in love with. Hope you enjoy. 

Cars that just weren't meant to be.....

The Vega. I had one just like this. Same color. It caught on fire driving down the road one day. Talk about scary.



The Pacer. I worked at a company that the main boss right under the owner drove one just like this. She was a very affluent lady and this is the car she drove. 

The Pinto. I never had one of these but back in the day it was always a big joke if you owned a Pinto. 

And my Maverick was one of my favorite cars. My son-in-law laughs at me. He says a Maverick is a Mustang wanna-be. I don't care, I still loved that car. It was white.



I loved it so much that when it needed to be traded in, I traded for another Maverick. Mine second one was like this. It was the first stick I had ever owned. I learned to drive it when I was about 5 months pregnant. After giving birth to twins, the 2 door had to go.



I owned a car that was a Dodge Dart and instead of a gear shift, the PRNDL were buttons on the dashboard. It was just a boxy car and nothing to brag about. But I bought it cheap. I didn't really like it. It was just what I could afford at the time.



But I will tell you this. If I could buy a new car today, I would be more than happy to say I owned a Dodge Dart now. Talk about a change.

Unique

I was with my daughter when she went to purchase a cell phone Saturday. I was there to keep Shelby entertained and it turned I was the one entertained by Shelby. The phone store had a giant mural on the wall. Shelby was fascinated and asked me to take her picture in front of it. 

Then she decided it would be neat to "break" the photo down in to smaller shots. So I had to snap her "petting the dog."

And getting a "hug" from one of the girls in the picture. 

She then decide it would be neat for the boy to "hand" her something from the wagon. 

And she ended the photo shoot by "digging" around in the wagon. I was very impressed that she wove her story using the mural. It was pretty cool. 

Weekend wrap up...

My grandson Caleb turned 11 on Friday. He spend the evening with me and we went out to eat at his favorite place, The Diner. Afterwards, we went birthday shopping. We had a great time. 

Sunday was his birthday and both sides of the family had a big birthday bash at Applebee's.  He was thrilled with all his gifts but I think his new smart phone just made his day. He's been wanting one so bad.

It was a great party and a wonderful way to end the weekend. I did have some goodies to share. Thirty-One had an aMAYzing sale this past week. I got this awesome flip flop Keep it Caddy. It is normally $22, but on the sale I just paid $10.00.

For two years, I have planned on ordering the Thirty-One black Retro Metro purse with my initials in white. But it has been $55 and I just didn't want to pay that. Whenever they had a 1/2 price purse sale I would always end up getting one with a pattern. Well on the recent sale, I finally snagged on for just $20.00! I am beyond thrilled and I am loving it.

Last but not least, I picked up some stuff for the redo of the kids room to a beach room. I will show an update when I get the room done. But I did want to share this little oyster share I found at Joanne Fabrics for just $4.00. I fell in love with it. 

That's my weekend update. Sorry I missed posting yesterday, but the time just got away from me.
