Vintage Cosco Utility Cart

I have one of these vintage Cosco utility carts that were so popular in the 50's. Mine is in great shape, but it is wood paneling colored like the one below.



I am getting ready to paint it. Part of me wants to do it in red since that seemed to be the most popular color. 

But then again, a basic white would go with anything if I ever change color schemes.

I know I don't want hunter green. That just isn't the color I am shooting for. 

Since the room it is in has pink, blue, yellow and red throughout, this would be kind of cute. 

I really, really like the yellow though.



Most everyone I see who redoes them picks an aqua or turquoise blue, which I like really well.



I have looked for years for one of these and I normally would never have bought the brown one, but I only paid $2.00 for it so I want to paint it and use it. There is a group on Facebook where a lady restored one and sold it in her shop for $75.00!! Whoa, I will stick with paying $2.00 and painting it myself, but hers turned out pretty.

I think I have narrowed it down to red, blue or yellow on painting mine. What are your thoughts? All of those colors are in the room I am using it in.

Inspire, Motivate and Celebrate

Help! I need advice...

As you may know, I am redoing my office/craft room in my house....one area at a time. There is one area that is giving me grief. This is my craft table. It holds my sewing machine and a few craft baskets, which I have to move out of the way when I craft. The table is ugly. The brown legs are hideous. But it works and I can't find anything to replace it that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

I am wondering what it would look like with a table skirt around the legs so you don't have to see them. My friend gave me one to try and it was gorgeous but it ended up not working because the pattern just didn't end up going with the rest of my decor. So I went online. this would be easy, but I still think the pattern is just too busy for the small space I have in my craft room. 

If I could figure a way to use a spring loaded curtain rod, something like this might work if I could find the right curtains. 

I really, really love this since I have a lot of teacups and teapots in that room. The lace would be perfect. However, the table sets in front of the window and has long lace panel curtains. So I tried holding a lace table cloth up just to see the look and WOW you CAN get too much lace. 

This was kind of cute to me, but again it is a little too busy.

I know this is around a sink, not a table, but I love it. If I could find a vintage tablecloth that might work.

Basic and simple. I could just use solid fabric or even something with just a very small Swiss dot pattern.

Here is another one that did the curtain rod with curtains. If I can just figure a way for the curtain rod to hook under the table.

Very simple, very easy. Very plain.

If I could just find a wooden table like this, I could easily do the curtain thing. Of course if the table was pretty, I probably wouldn't be worried about hiding part of it.

I would appreciate any advice at all on how to cover these unsightly legs.

Comforter Complaints

To use the line made famous by Joan Rivers...Can we talk? First I want to complain about comforters. I looked everywhere for a beach quilt for the grandkids room. I could not find anything I liked. So I checked out comforters. I finally found one that I thought looked "beachy" with the blue and white stripes. I found some cute anchor material to make some throw pillows for the bed.

Once I put the look together, I am not happy with the comforter. It doesn't stay on the bed well. It was apparently an irregular because there are two seams at weird places that cause it not to lay well. Removing the seams is not an option because even without them it is too poofy and not at all what I want for that room. I am going back to my original plan of finding a quilt. I really like this one, but can only find it online. I hate ordering something like this sight unseen, but I may bite the bullet and go for it. I just can't find anything else I like.

We are going to the beach in September and there is a linen store there. I may hold off and see what they have that I like. I went to their website and did see this pattern that was very pretty.

I found this one online that I kind of like. Just not real sure though.

I did fall in love with this one that said "Low prices guaranteed." But when I visited the site and saw the low price of $139.99 for just the quilt...uh...NO. That's is So not my price range for a store bought assembly line made quilt. But it sure is pretty.

I'll just have to keep looking.

Sunday's Plans

Time to gather up my things and get ready to go to Sunday School and Church. 

We are going to head out earlier than usual this morning because two of our communities organizations are fixing us breakfast this morning. I understand their will be bacon and eggs among other tantalizing taste for a Sunday morning. All I needed to hear was the word bacon and I was setting my alarm to make sure I got there on time.

Many of you do not know that I have been helping in Sunday School class doing crafts for about 5 years now. I am at that point where I am starting to miss attending a class with other adults. I have loved working with the kids, but as of October 1st when the classes change and they all move up a grade, I am going to resign from crafting and attend my own class. I sure will miss my "gang" but I just feel like it is time. I will still help once a month in Children's Church, but it is going to feel strange not providing a craft for my kiddos every week. Especially this little group who has been with me since they were about a year old. I just can't believe they are all in first grade now.

We have started working on our Christmas program for church so I am sure choir practice will be tonight. We've just practiced once so far, but from what I am listening to on the practice CD, these are going to be beautiful songs, but easy to sing. We usually perform twice; once is right after our annual Christmas parade.

I am not sure what I will do this afternoon. I am so exhausted that I may just lay around on the couch. I do have to make a quick run to town and I will probably stop by my favorite antique store on the way home.

Hubby and I will have a late supper this evening and he is talking about having biscuits and gravy, fried potatoes, eggs and sausage. Guess I'll get breakfast twice in one day. Awesome! His gravy is my favorite because it is made with bacon grease not sausage. I love bacon gravy but most people have never even heard of it. 

Well, that's about how my day is going to roll. How about yours?

Thoughts of fall.....

I don't know what it is about mid-August that makes me think so much of fall. I guess it is the back to school excitement. It always makes me think of Friday night football games.

Going to the apple orchard to get apples to make apple butter.

Drives through the Great Smoky Mountains to see the changing of the leaves.

People beginning to display their mums.

Jumping in the leaves after Daddy would rake them up. 

There are so many memories in fall. I love when we start getting close to that time of year.

Update on my Pyrex Collection

It's been awhile since I showed my Pyrex and vintage collection. AS you can see I am starting to find some great pieces in the Town and Country and the Colonial Mist. I love these two sets. I was lucky enough to get a black gooseberry, but only one bowl.

More of the Town and Country which is fast becoming one of my favorites. I finally acquired the black barbed wire I have been wanting forever.

I did get my first bowl in the Autumn Harvest pattern. Hoping to add some more soon in that pattern. 

I adore my Shenandoah Cinderella set...ALL FOUR BOWLS. They are so hard to find around here. They were a Christmas gift from one of my best friends. I found my vintage pitcher and tulip mug at a local thrift shop called His and Hers.

My baker dishes on the right are some of the ones I have been looking for three years for. Found them all this summer and the most expensive one was $10.00. Still love my little Holt Howard Kitties I found on E-bay for just $9. 

I love my 441 Cinderella's in the Town and Country (that was my first T & C bowl and it was a gift from my son and his family). I also have the Butterfly Gold in that bowl. I have the Butterprint in that as well, but hubby was using it at the time of my photo shoot. I have a couple of Hazel Atlas cups that I just love. Looked hard and long for those and found them at a road side flea market stand for just .75 cents each. 

I don't know why, but I love little pitchers. I do not know if these are vintage or not, but I thought they were cute. 

One of my favorite Town and Country pieces and Hubby has confiscated it to hold his miniature Hershey mix. 

This is a new piece my friend gave me. She said I can keep it or trade it. I think I will trade it. Now just to find somebody who needs the dots and has something good to trade. 

Well, there you have it. My next piece I want is one of the Friendship pattern. May go look this weekend.
