Something new to try...

I have been seeing these toaster biscuits in the freezer section at my local store for months. Finally bit the bullet and bought a box to try. Best way to try them was to make an old fashioned favorite Mom used to make for us.

I mixed some dark Karo corn syrup with some softened butter in a small dish.

It doesn't look so great from the camera, but I assure you it is like a gooey caramel gravy.

I fixed one of the biscuits just to see how they were.

After I toasted it, I sliced it open on my plate.

And poured the syrup/butter mixture over it.

The results:  Hmm. Not really sure. I did love the flavor of a good ol' southern biscuit. The inside was a little fluffy, but being so thin it was hard to expect any fluffiness. I did get the outer edge just a tad crispy, but not much at all.

Flavor about an 8 - 9 on a scale of 1 - 10. Texture about a 7 since there was no fluffiness. Not my favorite biscuit ever but I did eat every bite of it. Of course it's hard not to when it is covered with such delicious goodness.

Would I eat them again? Yes, I'm going to make a small batch of gravy and try the next one I eat. Would I buy them again? Probably not. You can buy a bag of Grands for around the same price as 8 of these and just take out what you need. They were $2.89 for eight biscuits. But on the flip side, if I'm in a hurry and just want a biscuit really quick, I would probably keep a box on hand. So do I give these a thumbs up or thumbs down? I'd say it's probably the wibbly wobbly hand gesture for so-so.

Many years of laughter....

Many years of love....

And a card on our 20th anniversary that had a book mark in it. Allen said these words caught his heart and he knew he could never say it to me as well as this does.

I have kept this in my bible for 15 years and now it hangs on my refrigerator. I was blessed to have had that one great love and it will live in my heart forever. He was, is and always will be my soul mate and the love of my life.

My updates from this week

I have gotten so lazy on my posting. It has just been a busy crazy few weeks. But I'm back to normal now. I did spend the 4th of July going antique shopping with my friend Sherrie. We had a great time, even if we just went to four stores before wearing ourselves out. I found a few things. One was a Corelle platter in the Pyrex Butterfly Gold pattern. I've seen these a lot of places for $18 - $24 and won't pay that for it. But I found this one for $4.

I also found this Corelle casserole dish that I've been looking for. It was $5.00 and in excellent shape.

I'm trying to collect as many of these 501 Pyrex bowls as I can till I can get every pattern they make. Found this one really cheap but can't remember what it was. I think around $3 or $4. I have different ones so far. I need to see how many there are total.

My happiest find of the day was this wooden spoon for $1.25. I know that sounds crazy, but I had a wooden spoon me and Allen used for 35 years and it broke last year when I was stirring brownies and I wanted another one that was all broke in and weathered. So I was thrilled to find this.

I didn't buy this because it was $9 but I took the picture to remind me that I wanted to do this for my craft room. Next time I'm at the Dollar Tree I need to look for one.

Last time I went to this one store, Memory Antiques, I saw this booth and came home and pulled out my pink and sage green to redo my bedroom. But I'm still not happy with it because it's not girly looking enough. I have tans in my bedspread and it was more country rose, not pink. So I really want to look for a new bedspread and get some more pink in there. I always wanted a pink-pink lacy bedroom.

Instead of green in it, I want to incorporated some medium blues and maybe a little lavender. Kind of like the flowers in this tray that I wish I had bought.

That's it for today. Hope you are all having a good week.

Planning ahead

I am looking forward to my beach vacation later this summer. Sherrie and I go and we like going out shopping in the morning, having a late lunch and then going back to the hotel to go on the beach. We fix and easy supper in the room so we get to veg out in the evenings. I just love to sit on the balcony and work on plastic canvas patterns. It is time to start looking at what I want to work on this year so I can cut out patterns, check my yarn supply and purchase anything new I need to take with me. Here are some cute ideas of what I might choose from to work on this year. First are these adorable jar lids perfect for give snacks in a jar as gifts.

What a neat little coast. I have never thought to add fringe to my plastic canvas but it would be so easy.

Talk about easy. I have got to make some candy canes for my tree.

What an adorable pumpkin bowl.

I am going to make this over the weekend now so I can have something to put my needles in.

Oh, I love these coasters. The pattern, the yarn colors. Just everything about them.

This pattern reminds me of a tablecloth. How cute is this little box. Boxes and coasters are my favorite things to make.

But I also love baskets. I have never made one that you actual "weave" a basket when you are done. I may have to try this. I love to weave.

A basket for every holiday. How adorable.

Oh wow. Not sure I can accomplish the shape on these, but oh I would love to try.

How cute are these little plaid ornaments. I am loving the plaid patterns.

Now to makes some decisions and start shopping for yarn colors. It has been a while since I bought new yarn. Sometimes I just buy the yarn because I like the color and then figure out what to make with it. But I may be smarter this time and pick out what I'm making first.

I have a hodge-podge of things to post with no related theme. First off, this popped up in my Facebook memories. About a year or two ago, Milky Way came out with this candy bar to try it out and see how it did. I fell in love with it. It wasn't really marshmallow tasting as it was about the marshmallow adding a lightness and airiness to Milky Ways.

Since I love Milky Ways I had to try it. I fell in love with it and claimed it to be my new favorite candy bar....until I went back to the gas station I bought it at and they no longer carried them and I've never seen them again.

This also popped up in my memories and made me want to go back to Courthouse Donuts on my way to work for my favorite one. The ones at the bottom right corner are cake donuts dipped in chocolate frosting, then dipped in crunched up Butterfingers and then drizzled with caramel sauce. Oh, yes. I need to stop there today.

Over the years, I have sold and traded a lot of Pyrex. But I found this picture of one of my displays and regret some of the things I sold. I still have a lot of what is in this picture, but I regret getting rid of the things I no longer have.

Same thing with this one. I wish I had some of the ones on here I no longer have. Oh well, that's the price you pay for wheeling and dealing in Pyrex world.

Last Saturday I had to work and Old Navy was having their $1.00 flip flop sale. I love the old fashioned rubber flip flops for when I go down on the beach or work around out in the yard. So my daughter was kind enough to go to Old Navy and pic up two pair for me. I am so in love with both colors, but the pale pink are adorable. I am rethinking the whole wear them on the beach and in the yard thing because I don't want them to get dirty. Even though they are easy to clean.

My son-in-law was in a dirt bike accident. Please keep him in your prayers. He broke his collarbone in four places and dislocated it on both ends. He had surgery Wednesday and came home yesterday. Lots of screws and metal to hold him together now. He also had four fractured ribs which they can't do anything for. He's in pain but got out of the hospital yesterday and is on the mend. Shelby stayed with me during the hospital stay and me and her Mamaw Sherrie went running around yesterday. Sherrie wanted a new Vera Bradley billfold so we headed to the outlet sale. Everything in the store was 50% off and then you took 20% off of that sale price. So Sherrie bought several items that total over around $140 and got them all for $58. Shelby found a new back pack she liked. I think her Mamaw Sherrie is going to go back and get it for her for her birthday which is coming up.

And last, is the cute sign on our church sign last week. As a matter of fact, a local weatherman for WVLT news 8 was driving by and saw the sign and actually posted it on the news Facebook page. It was pretty neat.

Have a great weekend and remember to pop over to Friday Foto Friends and visit Ms. Debbie.
