Another family Christmas visit...

Today we are visiting with my niece Emili and her roommate Brittany as we check out some of their Christmas decor. I just love the wreath.

I just love this little tree with presents. I am going to do this next year. I have the tree just need to get the presents.

Every holiday they have the cutest door mats. I have got to find out where they get them.

These look delicious. Some seriously good looking food comes out of their kitchen.

Check out the rug at this door. How cute is that?

And where did they find this precious smaller sized inflatable? I am going to have to go visit them and go shopping with them.

Another gorgeous wreath.

One of those adorable places you like to drive by at night at Christmas time.

Even the doggies get into the festive holiday mode. Macey's first visit to Santa.

Check out her Christmas dress.

Here she is sporting her sweater and hat for the Christmas parade.

Not to be outdone, Mason is showing off his ensemble for the parade.

He is ready to roll.

Thanks Brittany (l) and Emili (r) for sharing your Christmas spirit with us.

A Christmas Visit...

I don't go home to WV for Christmas, so my sister sends me pictures of her house and I always feel like I got to "visit" with her. So I thought I'd share some of her pics with you today. Thanks, Rachel for letting us see your beautiful decor.

This next one is simple but probably my favorite. Makes me want to curl up with a good book. I need to find out where she found that blanket.

I just love how she has a little tree in each room in addition to her full size tree.

Week end wrap up...

Talk about a bad weekend. I worked Saturday and started feeling bad. As the day wore on I felt worse. Saturday night my fever started and I was talking a little out of my head and not making sense. Sunday, I felt even worse and the only thing I have eaten since 1:00 p.m. Saturday is what you see below.

I didn't get up until about 10:00 a.m. Sunday and went straight to the couch where I spent the entire day until time to go back to bed last night. Guess who's heading out to the doctor today. I don't do doctors. Things usually run their course in a few days. But it is the week before Christmas and I have a lot to do. So Doctor Time it is.

I may have to move to Iceland

In Iceland the holiday season officially kicks off with the delivery of the Bokatidindi—a catalogue of every new book published in Iceland. Let that sink in: The Iceland Publishers Association distributes a free catalogue of books to every Icelandic home. And people go nuts.

Jolabokaflod. An interesting word. It means The Christmas Book Flood. It sounds amazing to me. Read about it below.

A new book AND chocolate in bed for the night. Oh yes, I could live in Iceland.

A Christmas Story

In 1999 I was feeling nostalgic and missing family in West Virginia. I had seen a picture of a little plastic Nativity set like Mom had when we were little. I remember playing with it and I remember one year I moved it from off the end table and sat it under the tree before it was time for Santa to come. Mom raised us in church and we always knew the real meaning of Christmas, even as little kids waiting on Santa. So I decided to write a poem combining my love for the Lord's birth and my love for Christmas memories. I post it every year because I feel like it is meaningful. I hope you enjoy.

 A Christmas Story

Packages wrapped up with ribbons and bows,
Stockings over fires with embers aglow;
A tree in the corner strung with tinsel and lights;
A soft falling snow on a cold winter night.

Under the tree on a soft woolen skirt,
Sat a nativity scene of the dear Savior’s birth.
As I knelt down close to take a good look,
My mother would read from an old worn book.

She told of a mother, weary and worn,
Looking for a place for her child to be born.
The inns were all full, no room could be found.
They were shown to a stable with hay on the ground.

She read how the shepherds were watching their sheep
When angels came to them with voices so sweet.
She read of their messages of tidings of joy
As they told the shepherds about the birth of a boy.

We’d listen intently, eyes glued on that book
As she told how the shepherds went to go look.
How they found the sweet baby in a manger that night
And how they gave praise to God for the sweet blessed child.

We hung on her words, the picture so clear,
For this was a child the world would hold dear.
She flipped back some pages as we knelt at her feet,
While she read of some wise men and a star in the east.

She told of their journey to see the small babe.
She read of their worship and the gifts that they gave.
We heard about the frankincense, the myrrh and the gold,
As Mom quietly finished her story of old.

As she closed the worn book that she’d just read,
We’d get our kisses from Daddy and scoot off to bed.
As she tucked us all in and kissed us good night,
We’d think of that story as she covered us tight.

For we had been raised to know the Lord’s love,
And we knew that sweet Child was a gift from above.
We knew that a great sacrifice had been made,
That started with the birth of Jesus that day.

So forget all the presents, the ribbons and bows.
Forget all the stockings and lights all aglow.
For the greatest gift you’ll find on your Christmas morn,
Was given by God, the year our Savior was born.

Another busy day...

I had a great birthday yesterday. Lots of phone calls, FB posts, private messages, text messages and even one visit from my dear friend Georgeanna. She made me this adorable ice cream bowl cozi. I love it. It even had a new bowl for my ice cream. Of course I had to use it last night.

She also brought me this cute little jar full of iced gingerbread cookies. It went perfect with this display in my kitchen.

I bought myself a new laptop. Mine died in August and they couldn't repair it. It had been worked on twice. It was going to cost more to fix it than it would for a new one. I had been using a loaner so I finally broke down and bought me one. I got a 17" HP Pavilion. I love it.

I also forgot to share something I realized last week that cause me to created a little display. I have Rudolph and Clarisse and a dishtowel with Clarisse on it. I notice my cookie book has little reindeer setting behind the cookies so I created a little display with it all.

I wrapped some presents yesterday. I do have a few more to pick up this week so I'm going today to get them if I can find what I want. If not, I will have to go again the first of the week. I left my wrapping station set up. FYI I use a tape dispenser but the tape for those is more expensive than the tape on a plastic roll. So I buy the .57 cent tape roll and break it off the plastic and put it on my dispenser. Saves money. Yes, that is Snoopy in the background watching me work.

Last night I just laid on the couch and watched Christmas Comes to Willow Creek.  And yes that is Bo & Luke Duke from The Dukes of Hazard. Only in this movie they play brothers Pete & Ray. This is my favorite Christmas movie of all times and Christmas isn't officially "here" till I watch this movie.

I do have to run by Walmart to pick up an order that came in. I also want to head to Kohl's because nothing says Christmas like shopping at Kohl's.

All in all I really enjoyed my birthday yesterday and I am looking forward to doing some last minute shopping today.
