I used to have one of these small trays in clear glass. I would love to find one in the blue.

My yarn addiction

I love yarn. All colors. All styles. There are a lot of things you can do with yarn that don't involve knitting or crocheting. I saw this pop up on a website and fell instantly in love. Let's face it, I try every year to find ideas to make for fall and Christmas and I fail miserably to find the time. So I am starting now on making things for the holidays.

What follows is a hodge podge of ideas of things to make with yarn that are simple, easy, and cheap. I won't make it all but at least I have things to choose from now. Plus it's an easy way to use up my old yarn from past projects. So here are some thoughts for the upcoming holidays.....

Friday Foto Friends

I love vintage glasses. I am slowly getting a small collection. 

I was walking on my road the other day and they had just mowed. I love the look of a fresh mowed yard. However, I realized that my little home needs some flowers on the end of it. I say I am going to every year and every year time gets away from me. At this point, I think I will wait till September and put me some mums on the end facing the road where it looks so bare. I also need some hanging plants for the porch and never have gotten around to that either. For somebody that loves flowers and has them in vases and patterns of things all over her house, I am pathetic about taking care of the outside.

But I still get to see the wildflowers in the field across the way. Even if it is mostly Queen Anne's lace.

I had a pretty picture of a cow pasture, some corn rows that are perfect and a beautiful pink bush. But when I transferred them from my phone to my laptop they completely disappeared. Not sure what happened.

Somethings to make you smile....

Hen's and Roosters

I love roosters in my kitchen. Over the years, I have decorated with many themes. But no matter what the theme was, I found a way to incorporate a few roosters. Now with my vintage Pyrex and the assorted colors for a country kitchen, roosters hold a prominent part in my kitchen. I was looking online for some new roosters and check these out. This is a Jim Short rooster. She is so lovely.

I like this one as well which was another Jim Shore.

This is a vintage cutting board with a rooster painted on it. I just love this.

A set of vintage Holt Howard roosters. So whimsical.

Sometimes I just love plain white. Not sure why, but I do.

But this was just too cute. A stackable cream and sugar set.

Okay, now I want to go antique shopping again to look for some vintage chickens. Maybe next week I can find time. Have a great day.

Land of a 1000 smokes

Living in the Great Smoky Mountains provides you with so much beauty no matter what the season. Our mountains take up an estimated 187,000 acres. According to Wikipedia, the name "Smoky" comes from the natural fog that often hangs over the range and presents as large smoke plumes from a distance. This fog is caused by the vegetation exhaling volatile organic compoaunds, chemicals that have a high vapor pressure and easily form vapors at normal temperature and pressure. 

That's the technical description of the mountains and why the name Smokies. However, I love the more mystical description of the Cherokee Indians who gave it the name of Shakonohey which translated means land of the blue smoke. It has also been referred to as the Land of 1000 Smokes. Some days when I am driving to work, it is easy to see why it has been given so many names relating to smoke. But no matter what you call it, they are absolutely the favorite part of my drive to work every morning. This was my view when I was about a 1/2 mile from work yesterday.
