Friday's Finds

I saw the cutest thing at an antique store the other day. It is a measuring cup set. As much as I bake I am not sure why I didn't buy it. It was so adorable. 

Then I saw this at Hobby Lobby. Just $3.99 with 40% off. It DID come home with me. As a matter of fact I bought two of them for an Easter display I am going to do.

I belong to a Facebook group about Gifting other Women in our county. We make a wish list on Amazon and share it in the group and people just gift whoever they want. I have sent a couple of gifts so far and got this one in the mail the other day. I was super excited. It was the #1 thing on my list that I wanted. You know me and Steampunk. I am crazy about it.

I found this for $5 at Dollar General. I have a picture with a metal bike and flowers hanging in my house. So I bought this for the doorway to match it. 

I saw this idea on Pinterest and love it. I have some old keys. Now just to find some old bottles.

Another one of those dumb moments on my part. I fell in love with these clocks. They match perfectly with the decor in my living room. All three colors would work and I couldn't decide which one I wanted. So I figured I would go back in a few day and get it. I did and they were sold out. Why do I do this all the time!

Saw this cute rooster at Dollar General for just $5 but didn't know if I liked it well enough to buy it. Still thinking this one over.

Knitting Challenge

I love to knit....

My struggle is with finishing a project. I like things I can sit and do in a couple of evenings, not something that will take a long time. So I finally found something I can make in one evening.....coasters! I bought some yarn and got my needles and decided to give it a whirl.

In less than two hours I had this completed. I have decided to fill in the gaps between the fringe and make it fuller. But I was tired the night I completed it and just wanted to get some fringe on it.

It's the perfect size and didn't take me long to do. I may not fringe them all because that was a little time consuming. But at least I completed a knitting project for the first time in almost 20 years.

Now to make a visit to the yarn store!

The new ME

Now that I have gone back to work, I have really been watching what I eat and how I eat. I got in a bad habit of not eating breakfast, have a junk food lunch and grabbing fast food after work for supper. So these past two months I have eaten haphazardly and snacked way to much. Consumed way too many carbonated drinks and kept Junior Mint company in business. But that ended last Thursday night. I need to lose about 15 - 20 pounds to get where I want to be. I have had a lot of fruit, Cheerios, scrambled and boiled eggs. I have also tried to stay away from fried foods as much as possible. Haven't had a french fry or fried bacon in 5 days. I weaned myself slowly from Pepsi and drink mostly water with the occasional small glass of something carbonated. I ate a good meal Sunday night because my daughter invited me for dinner. 

I have also decided to try one new food each week. Sunday it was peas. Just let me say peas will NOT be going on my list of foods to eat. The taste was good. I am a texture gal and can't eat anything that feels weird. Peas felt weird. Ruled those out really fast. May try them again but who knows. Monday after shopping most of the day in antique stores and Hobby Lobby, I went walking on a local track. I made it 2 1/2 miles. I wasn't ready to quit but had somewhere I had to be. It's a start. At work this past Saturday I did 6,140 steps which was 3 miles.

The good news is thanks mostly to the water and no sweets, I have lost 2 pounds in 5 days. Not bad for somebody who loves her sweets. I am trying to get fit and I also want to look better in my summer clothes. I am happy to announce that all my flip flops still fit. LOL. Working out at home a little as well to work on my problem areas. When beach time comes, I will be ready. 

Some antique finds...

Friday I decided to do some antique shopping. I found this cute little clock. It doesn't work, but I thought it would be cute in my steam punk room. It was just $2.00. So I got it.

Check out the little gears in it. It is rustic looking but I am not going to clean it up since it is very "steampunky" looking.

At another store, I found this Indiana Glass cup and saucer in a sandwich clear pattern. This is one of my favorite clear glass patterns. It was only $2.00 for the set as well.

I have a cream pitcher and two small bowls in that pattern so I bought it and put them all on one of my little shelves. 

Last and definitely not least, I have been looking for over 5 years for this Carnival Glass blue/green iridescent King's thumbprint compote dish. I never could find one "in the wild". But as I was heading home Friday, I just made a snap decision to go in one more antique store. At the next light I whipped in and parked and entered the store. After the third booth, I decided it just wasn't the "right mood" to be in there that day. As I turned around to leave, look what was on the table right in front of me. The elusive dish. And the price was just $12 which was a really good price. So I came home very, very happy needless to say. She's a beauty.

I didn't find a lot that day, but what I found was totally worthy the time I spend out at antique stores. 

Sunday Songs

The Kingdom Heirs came to my church a couple of weeks ago. They were amazing. It was a wonderful spirit filled event. 

It's been wild...

For the first time since I went to work at the Stampede, I took some time off during the winter break. It has been a wild ride. I have completely revamped the craft room with the Steampunk decor. I have recovered the couches and redecorated the living room in a new color scheme. I have switched the bedding in the bedroom and "shopped" my storage boxes for different decor. I even moved the wine rack and blue Pyrex into the dining room, freeing up some room in the kitchen. It has been crazy but fun. 

Between all that, I have managed to bake...

Watch some of my favorite movies...

Visited an animal shelter to take a kitten into the cat room and love on it (therapy for me and the kitty)...

Keep the grandkids for the weekend and go to the movies...

Try different foods and (yuck) tea...

Went to my grandson Colby's ball games and to the champion ship game where they took 1st in season and 2nd in the tournaments.

 Put furniture together all by myself...a FIRST!

 

Kept track of my blood pressure, which I might add, is really good for 63 years old. I don't have problems and not on meds, just trying to do some destressing techniques to keep it this way.

Did some crafting and enjoying my new steampunk room.

Went to the work end of year party and also went out many times with various friends to visit, go out to eat and take in a movie or even shopping.

Decorated for every holiday.

Even realized I LOVE to paint. This was a pale gray. Change it to gunmetal color.

I shopped, attended church, lead childrens church every Sunday but one this year. Read 14 books so far this year. All of them at least 300 pages. It has been an amazing year. That brings us up to date through Thursday. I will post again on Monday to do a weekend wrap up before I have to go back to work next week. It has been one heck of a wild ride.
