Today is Monday....AND a full moon. The September full moon is typically known as the Harvest Moon, though it also has several other names in different cultures. The moon will appear full to the casual observer the day before and after it's peak. It will reach it's peak at 10:53 p.m. tonight.
I was fortunate to be at the beach in 2013 during the Harvest Moon. We sat on the balcony and watched the moon "come up" from the ocean. It was breathtaking to watch it rise. As we sat there we talked about it being a once in a lifetime thing for us to be at the beach during the Harvest Moon rising from the ocean.
But in 2014 when we took our annual trip, it just happened to coincide with the Harvest Moon again. Sky was cloudier and we didn't get back to the hotel to watch the whole thing, but it was still really pretty.
It is a legend that during a full moon there are higher rates of crime, emergency room admissions and people acting irrational. Teachers say they know when it is a full moon because of the way their class behaves that day. They say there is no scientific proof that a full moon causes craziness, but I don't need scientific proof. Just watch the people around you on a full moon and you will realize it does get a little nutty. I have to work today but thankfully get off before the moon gets full and the crazy comes out.
